Swap a LS1 for a LT1?

What does it take to put a LS1 in a 93-97 4th gen?

Take the parts out of an LS1 donor car, and put them in the 93-97. The parts list is extensive. Unfortunately, this isn't "Advanced Tech". Might want to try the "General F-Body Tech" forum. Moving it there.

In other words, after all is said and done, with the money spent properly putting an LS1 in you could have made your LT1 a friggin beast....good luck

If you have an LT1 already just rebuild it with heads and cam and it'll be faster then the LS1 for the same money. Not to mention 0 miles.

not to mention you'll need to redue the front end, LS1 wont fit under the hood with out some creative fabing. As kataklysm said, putting the money into your LT1 would be a better idea.

Explain, please.

Even though this list is for a V6, it will tell you a few things.

Your best bet really is just to sink the money into the LT1.

I am reasonablly sure that the ls1 wont fit under the lt1 hood, which is what prompted the redesign for the 98 model year. As always I could be wrong tho

Re: Swap a LS1 for a LT1?

Using the LS1 air intake system, no, you can't use the stock hood, an SS hood, or any other LT1 hood that doesn't have a raised front end (like the Ultra Z).

But if you use the LS1 K-Member, and create your own air intake, you are good to go.

So you aren't really wrong. importeater just made it sound a little worse than what it is I thought.

So, if you use an LS1 K-member you can keep your stock hood?

Will a 98+ K-member go in a 93-97 without fabrication or too much work?

Would headers and store bought exhaust kits be a problem?

I was thinking that if a guy had an LS1 bare block and wanted to build it from scratch without having to take his LT1 car off the road that may be the way to go, if it's not super hard to get it under the hood and bolted down with all the fixings.

Why not simply start with a LS1 based car and turn it appearance wise into a LT1 based car.

That has got to be waaayy cheaper.....end result is the same.

If you use your own intake. That is what sits so high on the LS1. It is possible that you will have to remove a little piece on the inside of the hood to clear the throttle body - but most likely, you'll get by with just a "homemade" CAI.

It will bolt right in any '93-'02.

Most likely not. Headers aren't as likely to be a problem because you really have to use all of the LS1 car's mounting stuff. You have to come up with your own tranny mounts and crossmember, so the stuff that the headers have to clear is going to be up to you to watch out for.
The exhaust may be tricky, just because of any differences you may run into on the underside of the cars themselves. These differences could probably be worked around or fixed, but it should ultimately work out.

That is a pretty good thought - but don't think that the K-Member is all you gotta have aside from the engine just because it is V8 - V8. Seriously, read this page from TA Creations, it has a lot of info that applies to both.

It's not just a drop and swap type install. It is a pretty big deal. I don't see it happening in less than a week for a non-professional shop that just hits it hard in the evenings and the weekends.

It would absolutely be cheaper, and a lot easier.
The only way that an LS1 swap should be considered in a 4th Gen F-Body is when you are starting with a V6. The '98+ V6 makes more since than the '97-, but there isn't that much more you have to buy to swap a '97- V6 to an LS1 versus an LT1.
