Swap a LS1 for a LT1?

Re: Swap a LS1 for a LT1?
Take the parts out of an LS1 donor car, and put them in the 93-97. The parts list is extensive. Unfortunately, this isn't "Advanced Tech". Might want to try the "General F-Body Tech" forum. Moving it there.

not to mention you'll need to redue the front end, LS1 wont fit under the hood with out some creative fabing. As kataklysm said, putting the money into your LT1 would be a better idea.

Even though this list is for a V6, it will tell you a few things.
Your best bet really is just to sink the money into the LT1.

Using the LS1 air intake system, no, you can't use the stock hood, an SS hood, or any other LT1 hood that doesn't have a raised front end (like the Ultra Z).
But if you use the LS1 K-Member, and create your own air intake, you are good to go.
So you aren't really wrong. importeater just made it sound a little worse than what it is I thought.

Will a 98+ K-member go in a 93-97 without fabrication or too much work?
Would headers and store bought exhaust kits be a problem?
I was thinking that if a guy had an LS1 bare block and wanted to build it from scratch without having to take his LT1 car off the road that may be the way to go, if it's not super hard to get it under the hood and bolted down with all the fixings.

So, if you use an LS1 K-member you can keep your stock hood?

The exhaust may be tricky, just because of any differences you may run into on the underside of the cars themselves. These differences could probably be worked around or fixed, but it should ultimately work out.

It's not just a drop and swap type install. It is a pretty big deal. I don't see it happening in less than a week for a non-professional shop that just hits it hard in the evenings and the weekends.

That has got to be waaayy cheaper.....end result is the same.

The only way that an LS1 swap should be considered in a 4th Gen F-Body is when you are starting with a V6. The '98+ V6 makes more since than the '97-, but there isn't that much more you have to buy to swap a '97- V6 to an LS1 versus an LT1.
