T56 Leaking From Around Driveshaft
Hello everyone, was under my car today replacing an O2 Sensor and realized I had some red atf leaking from somewhere, didn't take long to realize where it was coming from and I snapped a couple pictures of the rear of the trans. The fluid is not actually leaking from the seal but where the driveshaft itself goes in. I was planning on changing the fluid in it and replacing the driveshaft as well since it has a pretty large dent in it from the previous owner. I have an aluminum driveshaft from a friend. To get to the point, what must I do to remedy this leak? Also my car is a 97' so I know there are certain types of synthetics I shouldn't use, any recommendations on ATF Fluid?
Thanks, Grant

Re: T56 Leaking From Around Driveshaft
The rear seal is about $25. AC Delco part 12530278. I just had mine out with out pulling the tail shaft housing. I found it easier to pull the seal after cutting the lip off the original seal, then used a seal pry. Be careful not to knick the aluminum. I did not have a socket big enough to drive the new seal in, but was able to get it in using very light hits and a 1/4” extension.
