Thinking of a Flame Thrower....

I did a search for this and did find several threads, but i didnt see an answer to this question- I know I can get the module box and two coils and put spark plug bungs behind the tips (engine side). my question is is it possible for fuel to pool up in the muffler and blow my shiz up since its so far back in the system? thats the only thing holding me back. i dont have cats and have a pretty hot cam. it might work without even cutting one of the cylinders off. What do you guys think? too dangerous? if its not too bad, i think im just going to do it. its sweet.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

It could pile up but not likely. Plus are you sure you want to do that with plastic bumper and all?

Re: Thinking of a Flame Thrower....

will not happen. gas cannot ignite in a closed space if oxygen cannot reach it. The thing that makes those flame kits work is when air meets the gas, which meets the spark. Same thing happens in your combustion chamber. If you have longtube headers then you don't even have to worry about that "popping" sound on deceleration, which is the result of air being sucked back into the exhaust tubing.

That being said, this is a dumb idea IMHO.

Re: Thinking of a Flame Thrower....

You been watching Trucks on Spike this past weekend? They had this setup. Mentioned works only with no cats and that since you interupt the ignition to run the fuel out the pipe you can actually wash down the cyliners removing oil. I wouldnt do it unless you added a propane tank outback http://www.truckstv.com/ingear.aspx Auto Lock

Yeah, i saw it on trucks a long time ago, and now i have the cats removed so that it can be done. i bet i can make it work. as far as no oil on the cylinders, i dont know.

Yeah, I deffinately can't say that I haven't thought about it myself. But, it's only for show, no other good reason.

Check out this webshots gallery. There might be some info you can use in there.

There's some website I saw a while ago that had a Camaro with some kit rigged up and it ended up just burning straight up(along the bumper ) as opposed to blasting out away from the car. It kinda burnt the paint

Re: Thinking of a Flame Thrower....

Basically, the only way to do this without damaging the engine is using an injection-type setup in the pipes. I was actually considering this awhile ago too, but decided against it. I was talking to a guy with a formula who did it to his, very smart man, he gave me a little summary of the project.

For the fuel injection part of the project, he bought a 3 way fuel filter and replaced the stock one. This taps into the fuel system to provide fuel for the flames. He then ran braided fuel line from the filter to a pair of fuel solenoids (wet nitrous style ones, one after another, to prevent trouble if one fails) He then ran a line from the solenoids to a T fitting, then ran the lines to NOS fuel jets in the tailpipes.

For the flame ignition part of the project, he set up a set of relays from a lincoln town car to a pair of ignition coils (this allowed pulsing, and creates a constant 'buzz' of the spark plugs as opposed to ticking, supposibly this insures a steady combustion) He then ran plug wires down to the plugs in the exhaust. He had three switches in his console, one was a toggle switch to arm the system, the second one started the firing of the sparks and the thrid one was a pushbutton that injected the fuel and produced the flames. It was a very impressive setup. It operated very smoothly, they were perfect flames and not all sketchy like some of the ones you see. I made a diagram of it awhile back to map everything out when I was considering it, ill see if I can find it for you.

No matter what, if you want to have flames coming out of any part of your car, its either going to be dangerous or expensive. It would be a cool mod to do, but I prefer to put my cash towards more performance oriented mods. To each his own, but ill try to find that diagram and post it for you a little later. Good luck, dont screw yourself by not doing your research though

Here you go. I found this little jewel of a site some time back. It has proven most useful.

Re: Thinking of a Flame Thrower....

If you do this you are gonna have to extend you tail pipes way past the bumper to avoid burning the paint or worse yet, melting the bumper. DGZs way is the only way that is gonna work. Even with a big cam there is no real unburned fuel exiting the exhaust. Cutting the ignition is the only way to get enough fuel to support a fire and then you risk blowing the exhaust off the car.
