Throttle Body Cleaner

Used some Throttle Body Cleaner spray on my throttle body today after I changed out my thermostat and antifreeze. I sprayed some simple green on parts of the engine and hosed it all down...being extra cautious for the opti as well as any other electrical pieces and just plugged the throttle body with a rag. Came out SUPER CLEAN. Cant believe how much grime and dirt came outta there.

Anyway back to the point...I used this throttle body cleaner spray and it took a BUNCH of **** off my throttle body...can't believe how dirty that air is that can be going through there over the years. Im not usually a firm believer in seeing dramatic changes in these types of things....but guys...my car feels totally different...feels like it accelerates like crazy now...Ive had this car for a LONG LONG time and I would be able to tell a difference. Pretty awesome....

Those of you out there with higher mileage LT1's...i recommend hittin up the local parts store and pickin up a can of this throttle body cleaner spray...and sprayin it down and whiping off what comes out of there. My car has over 145K miles and it made all the difference in the world.

Use carb cleaner on a carb. Just spray it on. On the butterflys, choke, down the venturis, everywhere inside and outside. Car may stumble some when the cleaner hits the combustion chamber, but shouldn't die.

Moparman already touched on it..but just spray it on and in there good...with the throttle closed the gunk will just sit right inside the throttle body....take a rag and wipe it out...if u open the throttle a little may get inside but still...most of the gunk will just sit right at the bottom of the throttle body...where u can sneak a edge of a rag in and clean it up. Like Mopar stated...it may stumble at first start...but after that its golden...i think it has something to do with the alcohol in the product...

Re: Throttle Body Cleaner

Those throttle bodies get alot of carbon and gunk built up in them. Cleaning them does make a big difference.

Re: Throttle Body Cleaner

Re: Throttle Body Cleaner

The best way to clean it is to remove it, tear it down and use simple green and a tooth brush.

I pull mine off every spring and do it to it. Taking it off is simple, especially if you have the coolant bypass mod done.

Wow.. that is one clean carb...
Just one more quesiton now though, is it really worth cleaning? Does it improve preformance at all or anything like that doing the cleaning?

Dude...the whole reason I started this thread...was because I cleaned mine and I can actually say I felt a difference...the response is soo much better...Im not sure if it will work in all cases as mine was probably never cleaned before...has 145K miles on it...so it was reeaaallly dirty and full of carbon build up and other gunk. But if urs is a dirty..its a cheap and easy thing to do to ensure everything is working well..

Re: Throttle Body Cleaner

I can back you up on that, i clean mine every month or so to keep it clean. Not only does it accelerate harder, it's much smoother as well. i find my throttlebody blades start sticking when too much crap builds up and it's a big difference!

Works great huh?

Sea Foam is what I use. Been doin it for years. I typically clean my throttle plate/intake after every oil change. Helps a lot of idle/ drivability problems.
