Yes Sir, Cap'n Pete, I believe it was the September or October, hell maybe it was August, 2001 issue of muscle mustangs and fast fords (lol, im sorry, thats just funny to me for some reason), and the time was a 12.89@108mph in a red LS1 SS camaro, 6 speed, factory 275s, factory 3.42 posi, on 1/4 tank of gas at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. What a screamer

~Jon

P.S. I've had my formula at 130mph down a state road, but that was with no traffic, flying by my girlfriend in her red durango. Yeah, that didnt go over well

There was also an evan smith run with a 1998 ss that went 12.88.

01-02 aren't the only fast LS-1s.

thanks
my 97 ra at about 100 degree weather got up to a little over 155 .... slowly from 130 mph on up , braking is no problem if you have straight rotors.
that was in the middle of death valley with little traffic

Re: Top Speed

I've had my car up to 140 on I-65. What's amazing is how hard the car pulls at 120+, it didn't take anytime at all to reach 140. But now I need some new brakes(warped rotors), so I've kept under 100 for the past couple of months.

Re: Top Speed

A good friend of mine ran a 13.1 in her bone stock (stock airlid and all) '00 Z28 at baytown.

Ive also taken my 96 formula up to 160 and ridden with my friend up to 185 in his vette. That was fun.

BTW... vettes are 100x smoother than an F-Body at high speeds

I agree. There was a 1/4 mile test ran in GMHTP for comparing airbox lids W/ an otherwise stock 2K Z-28 M6. It had a catBk exh and disabled NOS and sticky's in the rear. It ran similar #'s, Mid to low 13's.

Many LS1 F-bodies have gone 12.9x stone stock. It's not the norm but it has been repeated over and over again under the right conditions. The mainstream magazines use similar driving techniques with all cars to keep their testing as consistant as possible. They leave the line at idle and lift the throttle during shifts. If they really wanted to drive the hell out of them they could expirement with launch RPM and powershift the cars but they don't for comparison reasons. Even then, as good as drivers as those guys might be on a road course, auto-x, or back country road I doubt too many of them have much experience on the drag strip. I'd bet money on the fact that at any local drag strip's test and tune night there's some guy in a "Chevy Racing" shirt that could bang out a Motortrend test driver in a straight line simply because drag racing enthusiasts have had much more seat time at the tree then the maintream magazine test drivers.

Exactly. I have a friend who is a weekend drag racer. A test and tune hobbiest you might say..It seems as if you can get a 13.8 out of something he can get a 13.6. He lives for the track."If its an M6"
Whenever one of our friends have a car and cant seem to get the times they know it can run, they call Him. You wont find his name in Motertrend.
