Water Pump leak woes

A couple weeks ago I started a thread about my leaking water pump. It was leaking from the weep hole. I bought a new AC Delco pump and have replaced it 3 times and still have a leak. The first time was my dumbass self causing it, as after I started it I noticed the gasket was only on by one bolt on the right side. I couldn't see it slipped out looking from the top. I took it apart, put the gasket back on and still leaks. I thought maybe the little bit of sealant I put on the gaskets was causing it to not mate correctly, so I took it apart again and got new gaskets and used no sealant on the gaskets, still plenty of sealant on the bolts.

Still have a tiny leak, a few drops in a night. What am I missing? I can't see anywhere it is leaking from, unless it is still the right side gasket, which I can't see or get my hand in to feel. I've never had this much trouble with a water pump.

Generally not a good idea to start a new thread on an old problem. You got a response in the other thread, but the person who posted was not aware you had already replaced the pump. Duplication of effort. I'm closing the other thread. I know I didn't respond to that thread, but we recently had a death in our immediate family, and availability of my time was seriously limited..

As far as the dripping, did you apply sealant to the water pump bolts? Some go into the water jacket.

Re: Water Pump leak woes

Sorry for the trouble, and sorry for your loss of a loved one.

Yes, I put sealant on all the bolt threads. I used permatex high performance thread sealant. The last time I even waited 2 days for it to fully cure before I put anti-freeze back in. Tonight I'm going to try sticking my camera down there and see if I can see if it is leaking from the gasket surface on the right side.

Have you put a pressure tester on it yet?

Re: Water Pump leak woes

Have not, but I think I'm a dumbass. I laid underneath the car and reached all the areas I could with my hand and did not find any wetness. I then looked at my crossmember and it appears it got a lot of water in it when I took the old pump out. I stuck rags up in the crossmember and got all I could, and today no "leaks". I guess it was just seeping out of the holes in the bottom of the crossmember. I don't know why it took days for it to work its way out, but for now that leak seems to be fixed.
