I think a better point is despite the 4thgen having a 100lb lighter aluminum ls1 and no options that weren't also on the 3rdgen it still weighs more.
I'd call that useless weight as a consumer.

When Holden upgraded from the iron block Holden 5.0 to an LS1, weight actually went up, because they made other changes to accommodate the extra 100hp.

I do appreciate when things don't break.
