Weird Brake Light Problem

I’ve got a strange problem that started happening with my left brake light today. It started with a warning ticket I got today for a burned out brake light. I swapped out the bulb with a 3057 plugin bulb. I pushed on the brake, and the brake light came on perfectly, I turned on the car lights and they came on perfectly again. BUT if you have the lights on and push the brake at the same time, the left light goes out. I know it’s a double element light but it’s strange that they work separately but not together. I did try 2 different bulbs as well.

I probably won’t be able to work on the car until this weekend but I’m curious to know what to look for when I do get to.

Re: Weird Brake Light Problem

Well, the problem fixed itself this morning. I imagine there is some kind of short somewhere so I’m going to keep an eye on it.

Re: Weird Brake Light Problem

Check the socket for corrosion. Seems to be a common source of problems with cars this old.
