What is the correct fluid for 97 convertible top motor?
Can anybody clear up for me what is the correct fluid to use in my 97 convertible top motor? My GM service manual says SAE 10W oil, but the fluid in the reservoir looks red like Dextron. Thanks for any help.

SAE 10W oil can be red depending on what brand you by. And that is what the GM Service Manual says to use. Most Trans Fluids are 10W30. Don't think it would make any difference. Also most Autoparts carry convertible top fluid.

This question was asked just a few months ago, though there was no definitive answer.

A call to the dealer would probably clear it up.

as posted above its a hydraulic pump use atf or hydalic fluid. atf is hydraulic oil with red die for when it leaks u can tell what fluid it is and it contains detergents. Most hd trans builders prefer tractor fluid vs atf
