What will it take to beat an LS1 SS?

Re: What will it take to beat an LS1 SS?
With mods in sig.(basically Hotcam, shorties, CAI, and exhaust) I consistently put 2 cars an a 2002 Z-28 M6 from 40 Mph to 100 Mph. We raced about five times from varying speeds, and I beat him good every time. The last time we tried it from a dead stop. He left on the second honk, getting a 1.5 car head start. At the top of third I caught him and sailed past him. Definately some fun races, but there was no way he was going to pull on me. I don't even have full bolt-ons either(no MAF, TB, airfoil, etc....).

If you are falling behind the LS1 cars its not because the LT1 is underpowered. You might just need a rebuild.

I've ran two ls1's; 99 TA and 98 TA both autos. I beat both by two car lengths with my current mods. It doesnt take a cam to beat an ls1 no matter what anyone says unless all the ls1's around here are POS's

ran a 2001 ls1 with catback and intake from 60 mph roll - kept with him to 100 then he pulled a couple carlengths by 140-
97 lt1 with catback- shorty headers - intake - progamming- but... car was taken from a junkyard and rebuilt- havent torn into the engine yet (building this summer) but guy i got it off of said it used to be dragged a lot and had some serious mods on it before he tore her down - so he assumed some mild engine work had been done
soo... ya i ran with the ls1 with little mods- but there is some engine work done i dont know about and he did end up pulling a good 2 car lengths after 100

Ls1's are faster than Lt1's but it doesn't take a heavily modded car or a cam to take a stock Ls1, unless a full exhaust, intake, and street tires are considered to be big modifications.

I love the LT1 just as much as the next guy but your spouting nonsence.

Re: What will it take to beat an LS1 SS?
Hey, mine dyno'd 289 too!! Difference being, that's through full exhaust, not a wide-open Borla. And that '01 T/A running 13.9 @ 103.....the time doesn't match the speed.....bad driver / bad setup. Your 13.1 @ 104 is quite respectable (but don't consider it an LS1 killer.....just that it runs right in with average LS1's, so yeah, I guess you will beat a few of the slower ones).

Re: What will it take to beat an LS1 SS?
Thats totally what I'm getting at. Thank you for being the first one in the post to see where I am coming from. Ya I never said I was waxing every stock LS1 out there. The guy in the TA was not really spinning. I think his car was just not strong on the low end. When he hit the higher rpms that car started coming up on me but that was at the end of the track.
REMEMBER THE QUESTION IN THIS POST!!! What will it take for an LT1 to be a STOCK LS1.

Re: What will it take to beat an LS1 SS?
I haven't had any trouble with LS1s with my LT1, even when all I had was a K&N fipk. From a stop, from a role...
But I will admit that this could be because of the drivers, and also that my LT1 possibly runs very strong - this coming from folks who I've raced and they were later informed of how little I have done.
I'm sure if we got really stupid on a highway and explored very high speeds the LS1 would walk away....
EDIT: so to answer your question, any mods you do won't give any benefit unless theres a capable person behind the wheel. A person knowing a car well and being able to drive it to its max performance will probably yield better results than a medicore driver with a car thats more powerful.

actually the car didn't have it when I bought it and with the summers we have here I don't think I'd want it.
Maybe later down the road I might add it, but not any time soon. Thanks for the compliment!
