Whats the best first upgrade for a 4th gen
So my Camaro is stock except for a K&N air filter and a catback of unknown origin, both installed by the last owner. I was planning on replacing the catback with a flowmaster one just cause the unit that's on there sounds kinda bad.
Once that's done, though I'd like like a little more power. Truth be told, my buddy has an '02 Audi S6 Avant and I want to be faster than him. That car makes ~340 hp at 7000 rpm, but it weighs 4000lbs. The real wild card is the awd. Factory claimed 14.5 in the 1/4.
From what I gather, the common first mods are headers, a catback, and a tune. Where would that put me in terms of power? Is the tune worth it with a mostly stock car? Do I stand a chance in a race with a setup like that and some decent tires? What else should I do?
Should be in my signature, but hasn't been working:
1994 Z28
6 speed
72k miles
T tops

Brand new stock 4th Gen LT1’s routinely turned low 14-second, mid to high 90’s MPH 1/4-miles when tested by car magazines, and when taken to the track by owners. After intake and exhaust, upgrade the cam for a significant HP increase. You'll be running 13’s. After the cam is the time for the tune. . The suspension does need to be upgraded to put that HP to the asphalt. And with your T56 manual, a set of 4.11 gears will really wake the car up.

What would you suggest for an intake? And as for a cam, I know I saw some people suggest 1.6:1 rockers, obviously that only effects lift and not duration, but I just did the opti, so if I can avoid pulling everything back off again to do a cam that'd be nice.

and for the intake you might take a look at this thread

I did not mean the intake manifold. Stock manifold is more than adequate in its stock form to accommodate most beginning modifications. It is typically used, with some mild porting, for ported stock heads and cam setups, up to 500 flywheel HP and more. If you are interested in that level, here's the best way to go:

They can also supply a custom cam specifically for your needs/driving style. Good place to start with cam selection. Check the descriptions of what he offers.
Running 1.6X full roller rockers is a "given" when you replace the cam. They might give you a 5-10 HP with the stock cam.
As far as a source for a tune, send me a PM and I will give you a reliable tuner. A good LT1 tuner is getting extremely hard to find - I prefer not to share my views of what is available in this forum.. From my experience, a tune on a basically stock engine will give you 10-15 HP. This is achieved by leaning out the excessively rich stock target A/F ratio in power enrichment (PE) mode - roughly... wide open throttle. While the tune is not essential, it will give you gains. But it helps to find a tuner who will give you reduced cost "updates" when you make additional changes to the engine, rear axle ratio, etc..
Just curious - what brand Opti di you install?

Unfortunately, not a good unit. May not last long, or you may get lucky - hit or miss. The only one with a decent reputation at this point is the Petris, but I think they are out of stock due to COVID.

Torqhead hands down is the least intrusive, plug and play install available. EFI connection is less expensive, but requires a different timing cover and more mechanical work. You might not care if you are already swapping the cam.
