what's more important, looks or mileage?

Hello,
Recently I came across 2 1999 fully loaded Z28's. One black one Silver. The only differences are the silver has 66,000 miles and has ground effects at $12,000 and the black has 23,000 miles unbadged and rather plain at $13,000. I like the color and looks of the silver a lot. What would you guys do in my place silver or black, also consider resale value.
And what should I offer them. I could also wait for something else, but...
Silver Z28 Black Z28
Any advice would really be appreciated. Thanks.

Edit- also silver has Traction control, I live in Seattle so it's pretty important. Any opinions on that?

Mileage. You can modify the looks. Can't modify the mileage. Go with the black.

66k miles is high to you? i dont think 66k is enough to rule it out. how about you look into the historys of the two cars and go off that instead?

true the miles arent high, but the 23k mile car is alot more appealing then the 66k, i wouldnt even want the ground effects, bc you'll be dropping the car a good inch and a half or so, , it looks alot better lowered then w ground effects in my opinion, id also go w the black, the debadged look looks pretty clean if you get some nice rims on it etc, my z is debadged, it looks alot cleaner, and if u really wanted some emblems, there only about $14 from the dealer, what about the rims?? are they both the same kind? tire tread? overall condition? etc id also look into the history of the cars, but if they both check out good, id go w the black for sure,

... look at the lower mileage car first even if it is plain. You shouldn't rule out the car with 66k that isn't high...yet. Like the other guy said- check on both vehicle's histories and go with the one that was taken care of that would be more important than mileage anyday.

either way you really can't go wrong if both cars have been taken care of

Black Z28 Sillver Z28 Check out these links. Thanks a bunch for the replies, looks like black is ahead, also what do you guys think about traction control, the silver has it, the black doesn't. As far as condition, they are literally identical, if the silver said it had 20,000 miles, you'd believe it. Silver needs new front tires it has nice 16 inch chrome rims and the black has 17 inch corvette rims. (black one was hit by a post in the rear, cracked paint $700 to fix and previously rear ended) . Any more advice would be appreciated, thanks again.

Unbadged? Light hit in the rear? What if it was hit a bit harder than lightly and was painted all over and the badges were left off after the paint?

Just something you might want to consider when looking at it.

To me 66K miles is not high at all. Heck, my 00 has 651xx already and runs better than ever. No problems whatsoever.

Like mentioned already, check both of the cars thoroughly to find any traces of previous mods, accidents, repairs etc. and go from there. If they both check out good, then it is all up to you and what would you like to have in your new car (looks like the silver one doesn't have t-tops ). Then offer $1-$1.5K below the asking price and go from there. I'm sure the sellers are willing to negotiate some since fall/winter is really not the best time to sell these cars.

Happy hunting!

66k isnt alot but if you drive frequently then it will add up. I bought my car last year with 55k on it. For 8k now, i have since put on 22k miles in owning it from my commute to college and to work. Thats an *** load of miles for 1 year. So my advice to you is. If you drive alot then get the one with the lower mileage. The theory being it will hold its value better and last longer. Although this isnt always the case.
$700 dollars is about right for a small rear hit. My car was clocked in a hit and run in a parking lot. My drivers rear bumper was pushed in about 4" and it moved the trunk lid over slightly. My adjuster said it would cost 700 just for that. And it was a small hit. The paint just spider webbed. I took a heat gun and popped the bumper and now all i have to do is move over the trunk like a few mm and its good. I paid my 500 dollar deductible and they gave me a whoping 220..yay for insurance. I should have never reported it.

General rule after looking at both cars thoroughly, i would go with the black. You can always toss on GFX later on. But if you live in the NW you are prob not gunna want it any way since your car will act as a snow plow

Re: what's more important, looks or mileage?

I'd go for the silver one for three reasons:
1. Condition. You said it looked to be well taken care of.

2. No accidents. The black one might have been hit lightly, but how do you define "lightly" You are opening up a can of worms by buying a wrecked car, especially if you don't know exactly what happened to it.

3. No t-tops. T-tops can leak(mine do) and being in Seattle, the last thing you want is leaky t-tops. Actually, I'd avoid t-tops at all costs.

going without t-tops is something you'll regret. My t-tops don't leak, just take good care of the seals.

Re: what's more important, looks or mileage?

My advice is keep looking!

When I was looking I looked at 3 SS camaro's in the same day. one 98 and rwo 99's.

98 was a red one with 58k miles asking 12,500.
99 (1) was a white one with 65k miles asking 12k
99 (2) was a pewter one with 17k miles asking 14k

Went home with the pewter one for 12k and haven't thought twice about it. All had similar options and the pewter one actually had the most, and looked like it had never been in the rain ever.

Re: what's more important, looks or mileage?

Go with the silver, it looks a whole lot better. Milage does not matter if the car was well taken care of. My dad's 94 truck has 264,000 miles on it and still runs like it did 10 years ago. My car has 119,000 miles on it and still runs like new too and my t-tops do not leak. When I was car shopping, t-tops was actually a requirement for me. I want the hatch like a hard top, and the ability to get more air in like a convertable, so t-tops give you the best of both worlds and they don't hike up insurance like a convertable.

The silver does have t-tops, it's just not listed. I guess I could keep looking but also I am wondering about traction control, worth it or not and can I add it to my car later if it didn't come with it already and what would it cost. Thanks again.

Re: what's more important, looks or mileage?

I'd say traction control isn't worth it unless you run around with bald tires, but that is just asking for trouble anyways. I have never turned on the traction control light in the rain, unless I was doing something stupid and meant to do it. I've had my car for a year and a half now, and it hasn't once saved my butt.

Unless you plan to drive it in the snow, I wouldn't worry about the car having it or not. And I wouldn't even want to try putting it into a car that orginally didn't have it.
