Why do I need to let the pump run after new fuel pump install?
Got the Racetronix assembly kit with the Walbro 255lph pump. Very straightforward install and everything went perfectly. My problem is, if I just get in and turn the key over the car won't start. But if I turn the key forward and let the pump run for just a second before turning the car over it'll start up just fine. Kinda like with the big power cars you have to let the pump run for a sec. before ignition. I haven't filled the tank to the top yet since the install, do I possibly need to do this so the bucket will fill up and then after that I'll be fine, or do you think it's a different problem? Thanks in advance.

only on startups where the car has set for say over 4-5hrs or no matter when you try to start it?
if the latter of the 2, then it sounds like your system is bleeding off pressure somewhere....
the stock fuel system should hold pressure in the lines for a few hours after shutting it off, allowing for an easy restart
fill it all the way up and see what happens but i cant see that making much difference since there is a return line that pours directly into the bucket anyway

Can't say I've paid much attention to wether it's after a long sit or if it's any time. I do know for a fact though that last night the car only sat for about 15 min. before a restart and I had to do the same thing. The only time it started up instantly was during the first start after the pump swap. It's not really that big of a deal to me to wait 2 seconds before trying to start, I'm just not used to having to do it that's all. For that reason I want to rule out that there's any sort of real problem. On another thought although I doubt it's the culprit. I originally pulled the shrader valve cover off to see if there was any fuel in the lines when I thought the pump died. I forgot it in my pocket and it's now just sitting on my dresser waiting for me to pop the hood and screw it back on. Think that has anything to do with it at all?

I filled the tank up the other day and so far it seems to start better. I still don't know why. I've actually gotten used to letting the key sit for a second before turning it over. When I haven't waited though it still takes a little longer to fire than I think it should, but does fire, when before it wouldn't. I have no idea what the problem is.
