in the first and only long trip i have taken in my 96 i got 23.5 mpg on the freeway cruisin around 70-80 and i punched it a couple times and also did some city driving then some "fun" driving down some sweeping country roads.

my last tank i got 16.865 driving 20 miles round trip in trafic both ways to work 5 days a week and played some around the corners here and there.

i think if i drove like my mom (can potentially be agressive but not usually) i could get 18 city and prolly 25-28 hwy.

When I first bought my 94 T/A back in 97' literally BONE STOCK down to the factory GSC's I tested my mileage carefully for a couple weeks to see what it was capable of. My best mileage I ever got was pure highway with the cruise set on a trip to and from Galveston: 28mpg. In city my best has been around 17 with my worst being about 13. 1 year ago I drove to Biloxi, Miss. to visit a friend with 150k miles on the clock....with the build in my sig making somewhere around 420 flywheel HP (352 at the wheels at last check), in the middle of September with temps in the mid 90's with the A/C on 95% of the time and averaging about 75-80 mph......I got 23-24 mpg going down there.

I don't know any of you guys are getting that much mpg...upper 20s, 30s...don't believe that one guy saying 40mpg...you're on crack. Freakin' Corollas and Civics can't do that.

I driving mostly city and luck to get 14mpg.

I don't think running a/c effects much at all. Maybe todays newer a/c systems run better, but I have an 07 Avalanche. Driving with the instant economy on, I have switched the a/c on and off, with no changes in my mpg. Maybe that depends on temp outside, if so, I'll have to wait another month and a half for it to get really hot in Wisconsin.

heh, my wife's '00 4-dr honda civic gets 42mpg highway, 33 in the city without AC, and 36 highway, 30 city with the AC on, has for years.

They had some guy on the news the other day boasting aobut his "smart-car" (aka ugly and tiny) that got 34 mpg highway...

Earlier this spring, I did an all highway/interstate roadtrip (250+ miles) where I got 30 MPG. I stayed within 5 miles of the posted speedlimits (between 55-65 MPH) and drove very conservatively. I was a little shocked because there was no heavy traffic and I managed top cruise right through the regular jam up spots pretty easily....otherwise, I don't think I'd have hit that mark.

01 Z28, lid, exhaust and predator tuner with 2.73 gears on stock 235/55R16 goodyears.

The smart car (and I use the term "smart" loosely here) is something I'll never understand. It looks like it should get 60mpg. Civics have gotten better mileage than the smart since their inception. My dd civic gets 36mpg all city when I go easy on it.
