Winter's coming fast!

Winter's coming fast!
I'm gonna be putting my SS away soon for the winter. Probably in about 3 or 4 weeks or so. I want to know, is there anything particular I should do to store it over the winter? I just changes the oil, say, 1000 miles ago.
My friend was telling me about how you should put the car on jack stands so you don't ruin your suspension, and take the tires and wheels off so that there is no pressure on them. As to not develop a flat spot. I dunno.
All help is welcome.

Re: Winter's coming fast!
you only put a car on jack stands if it is sitting outside. This elevates the car keeping moisture from collecting on the underbody causeing rust. There is no difference to the suspension weather the car is on blocks or just sitting with the tires on since in either case the suspension is not going to move.
As for the tires it depends on how cold it gets. They may get bubbles they may not it depends. Most do leave there tires on however.
All you really have to do is disconnect your battery to keep the alarm from killen the batt. and thats pretty much it.

If you put the car on jack stands then you won't have pressure on the tires.. ie no flat spots or bubbles, Don't knwo where you are, but I would put Stabil in the gas tank, look to directions for amount.. Run car for awhile like go for last drive with full tank and stabil in the tank.. take whereever and put on jackstands, take battery out and put inside on wood, car cover and done.. Even if inside car cover.. keep the dust off that 00 SS....

If your really not planing on starting it or driving it till 05 and it's in a garage I'd disconect the battery and put a cover on it.
storing it with a full tank of gas might be a good idea, keeps the condensation out.

I give my baby a good cleaning. A good wax and vacuum etc and fill the tank full of gas. I have never used a fuel stabalizer and i dont believe in them. I put the car inside on jackstands to keep the weight off the suspension. Take the wheels off and slide them under the car. You want to take the load off the suspension so it doesn't get saggy, and if you jack it up take the tires off it for sure. I also disconnect the battery and put a cover on it. I would also suggest putting some moth ***** or something in it to keep anything out of it.

Wow, thanks guys. That was alot of help. MY car is going to be in my garage, so there wont be a problem with rodents and stuff. Hpwever, I like the door/hood idea, so that you don't crush the seals. I think I'll buy a cover for it and everything, that should be good. I don't have any junk tires though.
