Wrecked Car.. Old people are stupid sometimes

Had some old people street shopping the yard sales down this road. They kept slowing down and speeding up to about 20mph. This was on a 5 lane highway with a full turning lane down the center.

After putting up with the speeding up and slowing down for a few minutes, I had enough. I went to turn into the other lane to the right. Checked my mirror to make sure the lane was clear. Then I turn my head to check the blind spot behind. As soon as I got my neck turned, BOOOOOM>CRUNCH>SCRAPE.

The old people came to a dead stop in the middle of the road!

They got a 1in "scratch" on the bumper of a chevy truck. I got a new hood, fender, headlight, and front cover to replace. It was a lot of damage to my car for a 10mph fender bender.

No wrecks or tickets in 15 years. Get a new camaro and wrecked it in less than 2 weeks.

No matter how you spin it, my fault cause I backdoored them.

Anybody know where to get cheap parts?

If they were driving eratically and stopped no reason other than tho get a better look at a garage sale, that sounds like their fault to me. Even though you rear ended them, they stopped for no apparent reason.

What was the speed limit?

I agree, but a lawyer I know said it would be 60/40 in court (me being 40). Im going fix it myself. I already got the parts, and a SS hood . Also I would rather not risk it going on my record. I have never had a ticket of any kinda nor a wreck, so my insurance is dirt cheap. Anyways the speed limit was 45.

Thanks

you are supposed to be in control of your vehicle at all times, which includes leaving a safe distance between cars to accomodate stopping at random

Agreed.. I dont think it would be in my favor if it went to court even though the people said they stopped in the road a couple of times to the officer.

That sucks, dude . Even though it's "technically" your fault, they really are to blame for pulling such BS maneuvers out in the middle of the (obviously not RIGHT) lane . The longer I've been driving, the more and more examples of old people being absolute ROAD HAZARDS I see . I think everyone from about ~50+ should have to do a driver's test ... see how many people are left on the roads then .

Good luck with your repairs ... at least it was a good excuse for an SS hood!!!

OK.... this is a tech forum. If you want to disparage old people (and offend those of us who are senior citizens by using your one-size-fits-all approach), and debate the issue of who's at fault, this whole thread is going to the "Lounge". If you would like to respond to the technical component of the original post, "Anybody know where to get cheap parts?".... have at it.

Well .. That car-parts link helped out big time. I found all the parts I need within an hour of me. Fender and front assembly will set me back only $200. Its already painted black. Hopefully the paint is good enough to get my by until I can get the whole car sprayed.

Yeah no offense to old people but there should be a age limit to have a license... My dad has been in two BIG crashes and all because old people somehow ignore stop signs on a highway and accidentally press the gas instead of the break.

How about all the wrecks caused by pimple faced kids with their heads up their butt? Guess we should make the legal driving age 18. It goes both ways.
A great example is yesterday, I had a day full of young people cutting me off and pulling out in front of me. I guess it was HIA day.

What about all the idiots driving with their cell phone permanantly attached to their heads?

Yes they could set up testing every so often after people hit a certain age, but that isn't a guarantee they'll stay off the roads either. I know it wouldn't have stopped my grandpa that drove like a maniac. My other grandpa drove fine until the day he died.
