$5k to invest in my car and no shops around
I've got a 94 Camaro and I cannot for the life of me find a speed shop around Dover Delaware that will do an overhaul on my engine! I just think I'm lacking the contacts..anyway. I've got $5k and I'm interested in the Grand AM 99+ top end swap. However, I cant find the parts I need around here (Dover). I have also been looking into the LS1 swap..like everyone else.
Anyone know a "East Coast Customs" around Delaware? lol.

If I were you though I would put some posts up in the regional section and state your location and inquire if there are any speed shops around (hopefully some that cater to gm products). That's how I found out about the shops in my area.

In response to the post that was probably bad.... "HAHAHAHAHAHA".
But anyway, I've found a 1997 SS with 75,000 miles on it exactly. I blue booked it and it came back with a retail value of 11,700 ( i rounded up). These guys are asking for $13,995!!!! Its a black T-Top, manual, fully loaded. Can any of you guys think why they would be charging 2+k more? Im heading there today to try and haggle with my trade in 3.4.. although I doubt they'd take the damn thing with 170,000 on it..but its a stout little car.
btw, appreciate the posts.

I wouldn't **** with the LT1 stuff. Sure, it's cheaper, but you'll spend the same amount of money on an LS1 once you add in the cost of oil and optisparks on an LT1

Assuming that the LS1 is a better engine than the LT1. Should I really just start looking for only 98+ year models? ... and possibly just forget about the 97 SS I saw?

After owning an LT1 and 2 LS1s, I can honestly say that the LS1 is a better engine in every possible way. Even my friend who is a DIE HARD LT1 fan just recently bought an LS1 and is already falling in love
Plus, you can get LS1 Z28s for around $7-8k with over 80k on them. Check out the For Sale section of LS1tech.com

Ditch that v6, you'd have to be crazy to modify one.

I've heard the grand am top end is only worth 20 hp. I've also heard of people spending more than 5k on a 3.4 and it might barely make it into the 14's... So you could do that, or sell it and buy an LS1 and have a stock 13 second car
You can get a REALY nice 98+ for a good price 7.5-9k with decent miles

Check this out... LOL. Yeah, I sent this in. Why? Because I am looking for any and all options. I wonder if they'd actually come to the site and check us out. That would be great if they used any of our cars!
Joe, Mike, Horsepower TV,
I can't remember the last time you guys had an F-body Camaro on the show. I watch Horsepower TV every chance I get on Sundays when I don't work. What would it take to see one of those cars on there? My friends and I on the car forum, CamaroZ28.com, have been wanting to see one of our cars on there for a while. By the way, I happen to own one of those great muscle cars myself and was also wondering what it would take to see it on your show!
My car is a black 1994 Camaro with a 3.4L block and I'm interested in doing an engine swap to an LS1 in addition to other drivetrain upgrades. If your show is not wanting to do another engine swap, I would also be in interested doing an overhaul on the 3.4L and drivetrain to make it "bullet proof" in addition to power adders like a custom supercharger/turbo kit, NOS, and/or the popular direct bolt on Top End conversion plus pistons from a Grand Am GT (years 2000 and later). Thanks for your time.

Re: $5k to invest in my car and no shops around
The 3.4 is a fine engine for the car, but only for transportation purposes. It's about pointless as a race suited engine. You're much better off getting something with a v-8 in it already. I had once thought about doing a v8 swap in my 3.4 camaro but just ditched that idea and bought a z28. It's a much worthier plan than the other option. Plus, I've got a car that I can fall back on if either is down for whatever reason. Not to mention that, I like the v6 because it's great on gas mileage where the v8...not so much.
