I agree there. I tried using my block heater a couple times this winter. Made a definite difference in how quick the car warmed up, got defrost/heater, better gas mileage too. Nothing like starting up a car with coolant that's 50F above ambient temperature. The pre-warmed oil helps too. Alaska's "plug at 20" program has been a huge success in pollution reduction. I would imagine the benefits in engine life are a big plus as well.

I agree with Kraest on this one though. I think 5w is the way to go for most of us on the board.

If you want inexpensive and yet still good. Go to Walmart and get some of their SuperTech Synth. Its inexpensive and is really Quaker State Synth.

I've switch to it and have not experienced the oil usage that I did with Mobile 1.
I have tried Royal Purple, Mobil 1 , Wal Mart Super Tech, Pennzoil 10 W 30 dino, and Pennzoil Platinum ( in the car now ) . The previous owner used Castrol 5 W 30 ( I Think ) dino - I got the car w/ a tick under 24K.

All seemed to burn about the same amount - ~ 1/2 qt. per 1500 - 2000 miles, and all were changed when the oil change light came on, which is typically pre 5K.

I am at 84K now, and have never noticed a lot of gas mileage diference w/ any of the oils. My highest ever on the highway was 25 MPG, when the stall was in, but my diesel truck having gun buddy was driving for that tank.

I had a co-worker w/ a '00 SS that swore that RP gave him better mileage. Different motors in different cars, I suppose.

Save $'s, buy the Wally Worls syn, and change it every 5K or less - you'll be fine.

My preferred weight is 10W30 , BTW , but the Pennzoil Platinum is 5W30 as that is either all they make it in, or all that Pep Boys stocked.
