Can someone tell me what a z28 "special service" coupe is? What is the difference between this creature and the "normal" z28/SS's?
Also, the ASR(traction ctrl) that seem to be so prevelant on the 2002 SS's....can this be disengaged/turned off so as to induce nice burnouts
Thanks...sorry if these questions are stupid

The "special service" coupe is usually referred to as the B4C option for police departments, the only difference between it and a regular Z28 is it has a bigger alternator for all of the extra electronics, other than that there is no difference in motors or running gear, also they don't have the Z28 badging so may be mistaken for a V6 coupe.
The ASR can be turned off, just be careful when turning it off because all hell breaks loose ........
Take care...........

For your second question: I just have made it habit to turn off the ASR every time I get into the car. If it is raining I will actually turn it off first then realize I want it on. There are electronic devices out there that reverse the operation of the ASR and change the default position of the switch to off. SLP makes one, but they are expensive... ~$60 I think.
All it took me to get into the habit of turning the ASR off was 2 botched burnouts. Lots of smoke, but not tire smoke... clutch smoke! :doh!: Talk about red faced.
