Is this 2001 SS a good deal?

I have been wanting a 1998 and up WS6 or SS ever since I got my Lt-1. A guy my dad works with is selling his 2001 SS. It has leather, t-tops, hurst shifter, six-speed, chrome SS wheels, ram-air, 51,000 miles, completely stock, and is in showroom condition(so he says. I'll look at it this weekend). He's asking $17,000, but says the price is negotiable. NADA and KBB both say its private-party value is ~$18,300 in excellent condition. Does this sound like a fair deal to everyone, or are these cars going for much less than he's asking? Now I understand that every now and then someone gets a screamin deal on a fourth gen, and I wish I was one of them. I am just curious if, ON AVERAGE, this is a fair deal.

Let me know about your experiences buying/selling SS/WS6 cars and prices. Thanks in advance for the info. I really appreciate it!

That sounds like a good deal, not one of those "killer" deals, but good. Does it have to be a SS or WS-6? Because you can find a fairly well loaded Formula or Z28 for 10 - 12K. Just something to think about.

That's about average going price for a 2001 SS or WS6. If you like the car, talk him down a little on the price and feel good about it.

i just got my ws6 last month with 25000 miles but a year older for that price.....i would talk him down because these cars values drop extremely with higher mileage

$17k sounds reasonable to me, but if it says OBO might as well try to talk him down.

I traded my 01 ss in Jan and got $18,000, it sounds identically to the one u r talking about except it was a hardtop and had only 19k miles, but it had the center exhaust.

Re: Is this 2001 SS a good deal?

Thanks for all the quick replies. I know that Z-28's/TA's can be a little cheaper than an SS, but I really like the fact that this car is in pristine condition(hopefully). I will definately try to talk him down, but even if I end up paying $16,500 for it, I think it'll be fair. Then I'll just have to keep the miles off of it. Yeah right! That thing will have 25,000 put on it in the first year.(I drive a lot!) Oh well, why own it if you don't drive it? Thanks again. Anyone else care to post? Please do so.
