2002 LS1 - Looking for info on Power Programmers

Hello,
I own a 2002 Ls1 with 7000 miles on it. I want to add some more hp by retuning with a power programmer. Can anyone give me any pointers on what brand/type of device to buy (and where), how much hp I can generally expect to gain, and any other qwirks I can expect to run into?
Thanks
Tom

Have it done right with live tuning on a dyno, don't waste your money on those canned tune boxes.

HP Tuners via laptop would be much more worth your while.

If you absolutely need a handheld, the Diablosport is a decent one.... although I'd go with HP Tuners over that.

I read on the HP Tuners website but still am missing it. So the VCM Suite allows modification and the VCM Scanner allow monitoring and logging of operating data? I assume that VCM Suite turns my laptop into a tuning device through a USB to OBDII interface?? Does this interface software come with sufficient doc also?

Thanks

Yes, Yes, and Yes.

It can modify basically ANY parameter of your car's computer -- timing curves, fuel/spark, changing gear ratios, clearing codes, completely DISABLING codes (including, but not limited to o2 codes, catalytic converter codes, torque management, etc etc).. everything and more.

Most reputable shops offer custom tuning on stock or mild bolt-on cars for less than the price of one of those programmers.

Where in PA are you?

Yeah i'd go for the custom tune. But do the basics before you look into that. Longtubes, lid, and exhaust.

I wouldn't recommend HP tuners if you're a beginner, but there is a lot of support and knowledge on their forums. As well as base tunes you can upload to get your started.

Most good tuners use HP tuners, or EFI live.

It's true when the guys said that HP Tuners and a good dyno is the best way to tune your car , but for your needs right now , a predator programmer would do just fine. I have an 2002 SS with HP Tuners myself ,but before that , I used my Predator . With predator and just bolt-ons ,3200 vig, slp lt's w/catz and nittos I went 12.2's/110mph best at that time.

Even after I had my h/c set-up installed and re-tuned with HP Tuners , I still used my Predator to remove unwanted SES Lights and diagnosic to check out my cars sensors or see whats going on with the car while it's running.

As for the hand-held unit , I say the predator is one of the best. I hope this helps ,man.
