315 rubber on 9.5" rim???
Yeah, I was browsing through an older issue of GM High-Tech Performance. It was the one with the Sunset Metallic WS6 in it. The thing has 9.5" Fikse FM5's all the way around. Nitto 555 245 (?) up front, but 315 555R's on the back. Is this even possible? Just wondering, cuz I figure if they can do 315s with 9.5" rims, I can do 295's find with a 9" rim.

different tires might have different specs on the minimum/max suggest rim width to mount them on.
The wider the rim is, the more "square" the tire would mount (less bulge).
If you mount a tire on a skinny rim, its gonna bulge a bit.. the sidewalls are gonna flex a little more, and not all the tread won't touch the ground because of the bulge effect... something to think about.

There's nothing wrong with putting 315s on a 9.5" rim. Plenty of people in my club have doen it(for years now with no ill effects). Plus, I have a set of BFG DRs 315/35/17 going on my 17x9.5" ZR1/SS rims this week.
No big deal

IMO putting a 315 on a 9.5 will not benefit anymore traction that say a 275-285 on a 9.5 would give.
