400 rwhp possible NA with California emissions?
To pass cali smog how much power can I attain? I've been hearing that without forced induction it will be hard because shorty headers give around 10 horses, plus I'm limited on cam size so theres not a whole lot I can do to push it up. I basically would like as much power as possible without nitrous/charger. I want to do it as cheap as I can. Thats why power adders may be out of the question. I would like to see a 12.0 flat in the quarter. I am new to the LS1 so hopefull this is not covered everyday, my search didn't lead to much.

First off...I just gotta ask. Why no juice? Are you afraid girly man? I'm sure if you just got a wet kit and lid/cutout you'd possibly break into the 11's. And you said as cheap as you can...thats JUICE BABY!!! Whatever your reason for not spraying you might wanna rethink, it'll get you your goals easier, cheaper, more reliable. But if you still wanna go N/A...I'll let the big dogs chime in on that part....

well I might do juice, actually I'd love to, but I'm not to sure its safe to use on the street? Always heard its a bit dangerous, and if in the event I must stop wide open throttle then I don't want the engine to go boom--unless they have something to gaurd against that. If not having nitrous makes me a girly man then I better get some as soon as possible

they make stuff JUST for that
wide open throttle switch and a rpm window switch
WOT switch only operates the spray during...you guessed it..wide open throttle...so it even shuts it off between shifts (on m6)
and the window switch can be set to only allow spray to operate between certain rpms...say on at 3000, off at 6000
combine the two and you are good to go

First question is, stick or auto? For 12 flats you do not need 400 rwhp.
If I had to make around 400rwhp under Cali rules I would go with AFR 205 heads and a LS6 cam. (Comp Cams also makes a LS6 replacement cam you can check into).

Dont do juice...its a waste of $$, sure its a little cheaper then a blower, but add up constant bottle refils, software to run it, runner, jets, lines, ecm programing, timeing retard modual, it all adds up real quick, and unless your savvy with computers, i wouldnt bother, plus each time you use it, it kills your motor. Just get a z06 cam or a tr22 lsa cam, those should pass emissions. Maybe ls1 hot cam kit? Shorty's will be fine...add some roller rockers, better heads, and a good catback and you should net around 380 at the rw's.

I'm sure if he ran a 75-100 shot he'd be ok. And a decent NX wet kit isnt that much, then you can get accesories if you wanted, and a tune, and I bet the bill is under 2k. Blowers are around 3k plus a tune arent they? Obviously I'm just throwin out an idea, not tellin anyone what to do

Thanks guys I don't have the car yet, but I'm looking for a nice TA M6. My LT1 bird was totaled so I'm moving up. Sure wish they would change the laws and let everyone ue longtubes. I looked at that 224 cam-I see there is one on 112 LSA anyway I could pass with that. Also anyone drive a SPEC 3 clutch on the street daily? I had a SPEC 2 in the LT1 but was afraid to go higher, but I've since heard they're not to bad. All this talk of nitrous has got me wondering how many of you use it on the street?
