98 LS1 swap into 02 car?
I just purchased an 02 Trans Am that needs a motor. I also have a 98 Trans Am that has a shot body. If I swapped the 98 LS1 into the 02, are there any mods I have to do to get the swap to work? I plan on swapping the intake off, but is there anything else? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I don't have too much experience with LS1s.

if all you're doing is the long block (block, heads) than you should be fine.
only thing i could think of would be the injectors on the 98 are different. also you will have to use the 98 style valve covers and coils. since in 98 the heads were perimeter valve cover bolts, and the coils bolted directly to the covers. 99+ they were center bolt and the coils were on a bracket. but you could always swap heads from the 02 over to the 98 block.
there was something different in the size of the throttle body cam on some years, not sure how that would interact with the swap.

No EGR on the 02. You would want to use the 02 heads and intake. The 02 heads are a better casting and the 02 intake is the LS6. Use the 02 exhaust manifolds too because they are better.
Who would know? I guess an inspector could look at the serial # on the block and determine the year of the block and if he did it would be illegal under federal provisions and maybe some state statutory provisions. Few if any of the smog facilities would check for the year of the engine. Just put all of the 02 emissions crap on the 98 and you should be good. I think the 98actually had a little more aggressive cam in it.

from what I understood of this post..
he has a new shell/body and an older motor.. wants to put said motor into new shell.. No PCM issue, no nothing... If its fully functional in the 1998 shell, it should just bolt into the new shell without issue.. no PCM issue as its the same one from the 1998 being moved into its new home...
some people need to learn more reading comprehension... <-- big word for some people here.
