Question 98 LS1 Z28 recall question

I have a question about the 98 LS1's. I've read that there was a recall on the LS1 cylinder head on models produced between Feb. 21,98 - March 13, 98. Has this been much of a problem? I'm most likely getting a 98 z28 on Friday, and would like to know if anyone has had any trouble with their Z. I'm afraid I'll get an LS1 that previously had the cylinder heads that were not machined properly, and it will have engine damage.

Is this anything to do with the oil consumption problem with LS1's? If not, I have not heard of any recalls ot the LS1. Early in the going for the LS1, the dealers would replace the rings on one piston because of an oil consumption issue. Now they just say it is normal and wont do anything for you. I dont think there was an official recall for this though.

There was a recall of the cylinder heads because they were machined wrong back in 98 (Feb 21- Mar 23) and could cause engine damage. I saw the official letter that GM sent to the dealers back in 98 to contact whoever has an LS1 Camaro, Firebird or Corvette and set up an appointment to correct the problem (either correct it there, or send it away). I'm just making sure that I'm not driving 3 hours to look at a defective 98 Z. All I have to do is check the dates on the cylinder heads and make sure they were not produced between the above dates. I'm just wondering if the owner could have not received the letter, or received it late or something and damaged the engine? (its a wrecked Z)

Ah well I bought my Z used in the summer of 2002 and wasn't aware of any such recall. I guess it would be worth me looking into...

It was only a few hundred cars..

had nothing to do with any oil issues.. it was a spark plug hole issue.. the one cyl would lose compression somewhat around the plug.. it was a casting problem on some hundred odd heads in 98. most people didnt even know they had a problem.. i had a march 14-20th car.. i didnt get a recall

its not really an issue

It was not an official recall. There are NO "offical" recalls for 1998 Camaros.

Here is where I found the official recall letter http://lscamaross.8m.com/ls1recall.html But now when I click on the link, it doesn't work. Maybe one of you can get it to work..

A TSB is NOT a recall.

A Technical Service Bulletin is only designed to tell a service technician how to repair a certain device if brought in for repair.

A Recall is where letters are sent out to consumers telling them to bring in their vehicle to have a part replaced or checked due to a safety concern.

Look: http://www.alldata.com/TSB/10/981002IS.html

all TSB, no RECALLS
