Aftermarket Clutches

My stock clutch seems to be fading... feeling mushy and seems not as smooth accelerating in 1st from a stop. I really don't know much about the reputation or quality of aftermarket clutch manufacutrers. I've looked at SPEC, Centerforce and McLeod. I don't have much to compare them by other than price and am looking for suggestions.

The McLeod REV-LOK II seems to be a pretty good clutch kit and one that's reasonably priced too. Probably would be my choice if I needed a new clutch tomorrow.

I don't know too much about the SPEC and Centerforce, except that I will never buy another Centerforce product after my experience with the DF in my '96, I hated it. The SPEC's might be ok (maybe the Centerforce is too) but I know the SPEC in one of my friend's (roughly 400rwhp) T/A didn't last too long with the abuse he put it through.

Do you, or does anyone else know how much horsepower the McLeod REV-LOC II will support? The description at Thunder Racing also mentions that it requires slight modifications to the factory flywheel, what does that entail?

Although the ceramic disc of the SPEC Stage 3 clutch kit can withstand more hp than a carbon or kevlar clutch, are there any drawbacks to the ceramic clutch? Thanks for your help

I have to agree with aaron, get the Rev-Lok! Put it this way, I don't think they put a rating on how much power can go through it, but it'll take anything you throw at it. I have heard a lot of problems with the star stage 3, and know the guy that aaron is talking about (by the way, he just got a rev-lok). The star really can't handle the power they say it can, and I heard it's not as streetable. The rev-lok retains stock feel, and there is also a guy that me and aaron know runnin on the rev-lok that goes 10.90's and consistently launches at about 4,000 rpm or so and the rev-lok is having no problems. It'll take anything you throw at it and last a lot longer than the others. IMO it's the best clutch for our car, and it's the cheapest, $420 at thunder racing. You can use the stock flywheel, or buy mcleods lighter one, up to you.

No problem bro, good choice!!!! Enjoy it! One more thing that I forgot to mention, with any clutch, since yours is a '98, you're gonna need to update the hydraulics. And if it doesn't come already done, you'll need to do the drill out mod on the slave or master, whichever one it is. Not sure exactly what it is, but talk to your mechanic about it, i'm sure he'll know and you can find out some info about it here: Go to www.installuniversity.com and click on install documents on left and go down to Transmission, and click on Mcleod Adjustable Master Cylinder and Drill Mod install.
