Aftermarket lids & Performance gain

Which one do you have, and do you like it? fit? price? Just wondering which one to get for a 2000 Z28. I don't want to buy junk then end up removing it. What's the estimated gain for an aftermarket lid vs stock? Just wondering if it would be noticeable. I see alot of people talking about how K&N's and flowmasters were "mistake mods"...I don't want to buy anything that sucks.

thanks

I have the clear Texas-Speed lid. I saw a noticeable difference at a 45mph+ punch. They are a bit pricey, and most lids will give you the same gains. http://www.texas-speed.com

A lid is a lid is a lid is a lid.

Cool

I bought my never installed SLP lid from a member of another board for $65.00, including shipping and I am sure there are no noticeable performance differences between that and the more expesive ones.

Just keep an eye on the For Sale section and you'll save a boat load of money by buying used.

K&N filter you mean? I'm sure Psychocabbage will pitch in with his experiments.

Flowmaster? The catback supposedly flows a lot worse than any of the other ones. But, IMO, you can't beat the sound, though. I have a Flowmaster muffler and a cutout, so no catback needed. And it's a whole lot less expensive that way, too.

all lids are pretty much the same. you won't be able to tell a difference between one and another.

if price is your only concern...SLP blemished lids are probably the way...if they still sell those.

i have the TSP lid, it is rumored to flow better...but who knows...

the nice thing about TSP is that they make lids with outlets wide enough to accept the 85mm maf sensors, either the GMS or something like the ZO6 unit. this will allow you to extract MAXIMUM flow from the lid and maf upgrade.

fit and finish on my TSP is flawless as well and the gain was nice, although i also combined it with a SSRA and it pulled REAL hard form 50-120

Like all these guys have said, any Lid will pretty much give you same gains.

I have a LS1 Motorsports(Quarter Mile Performance) lid. I got it for $95, I think they're going for $75 now.

I have had the SLP aftermarket lid and the SLP/Donaldson OEM lid. Both perform the smae but the OEM lid looks 300% better. I am also running the Donaldson Blackwing air filter too. The filter was a tad bit pricey but isn't a POS like the K&N.

thanks for the info....I found a few comparisons/reviews of aftermarket lids and 9-12 RWHP seems to be the norm.

My friend dynoed his cammed LS1 with a stock lid, then immediately after w/ an MTI lid, he gained 16 rwhp at peak. I was there I saw it, they really help out on a modded car. Other dynos on stock cars I've seen are like 8 rwhp.

I use an SLP lid and it works fine.
My input on the filter is that the stock factory paper filter is more restrictive than not having a filter. I dont have any experience with the K&N , but I average 2 mph and 1 solid tenth in the 1/4 mile without the factory filter in. Some one may argue and say that it flows the same , but from my own experiments it cannot come close.
I may buy a K&N and do some testing now.

I agree, but the reason I no longer use K&N's is due to the fact that they let dirt pass through and they aren't built for the F-Body.

The Blackwing I am using now is a much nicer filter. They are a tad bit more but worth every penny to me. Maybe they don't add HP but they do make for a more responsive throttle.
