Question Aftermarket shifters: worth it?

Whats your guys and gals take on an aftermarket shifter like a B+M, Hurst or 5.0? Are they a pain to install? Thanks for the info.

This is the best mod you can do for an M6 beside the skip shift elmin. I have the Hurst but any of them are better than the stock POS. You'll almost never miss 3rd again. I had mine on my '97 and now it's on my '02. I have over 40K miles on the shifter and this last week I just took it off and took it apart, cleaned and re-greased all the internals and now it is like the day I bought it. THe reason I did this is I was getting a little bit of sticking, now it's good as new.

They are faily easy to install the hardest part is getting the consol off. THere is a trick to this with the e-brake. I can give you more details on that after you get one.

I can tell you the Hurst is good, but I have heard from my friends that the Pro 5.0 and Ripper are great too.

Upgrading to a performance shifter is 1 of the best mods you can do for a manual tranny car if you plan on doing any kind of spirited performance driving or competition...it's worth every penny!

I have the OEM Hurst.. its better than the stock one.. I would get a Pro 5.0 personally.

So far, I have tried others like the Pro 5.0 and the Aftermarket Hurst.. I like the Pro 5.0 more.. I havent tried the ripper but have not been impressed by them either off of reputation.

For now I will keep my OEM but if I miss a shift, then I will feel the need to get one.

The factory hurst reacts even better with a Lou's Short Stick. It's more positive. Maybe not as good as a Pro 5.0 or ripper, but better then with the stock stick.

B&M Ripper here...
You won't believe the difference in feel with an aftermarket shifter. It is like going from the Wright flyer to a P51 Mustang.

I've had the Ripper and the Pro 5.0. Both are outstanding shifters but IMO the Pro 5.0 is superior. You can not go wrong with either shifter.

Shifter, Yeeeeesss

I ordered my shifter and !CAGS the day after I bought the '02Z.I had it on the '95Z and the stock GM shifter is junky and too long of throw. I got the SLP short throw but it seems like most people here like the Ripper and Pro 5.0. Later>>>>>>

I have the factory Hurst in my SS and I had the stock shifter in my old 95 v6. Barring the differences between the m5 and the m6 I think the Hurst is MUCH better. The throw from 4th to 5th with the stock shifter was just LONG and it was not super easy to throw from 2nd to 3rd either. The Hurst solves both of these. I am getting a Lou's short stick or something like it though to help shorten up the throws even more!!

I have the factory Hurst in my T/A and it's a good shifter. I never missed 3rd.

I installed a short stick from Spectacle Solutions and I love the shifter now! ( http://www.SpectacleSolutions.com )
