air box question...help!
When i was thinking of what do next to my car i was confused about the mods that u can do to the LS1 air box? i have seen K+N sell the FIPK fuel injection stuff that looks like it completely tears apart the air box...so obviously u cant buy a direct flo lid if u buy the injection kit right? or is there some way they can be on the car at the same time??....so what is the deal and performance difference between the lid and the injection kit?

FIPK ... Fuel Injection Performance Kit. Air intake for for fuel injection cars ...doesn't have anything to do with the fuel injection system per se, but K&N thought it was cool product name.
That said, it is a direct replacement of the stock airbox system. So no lid is need or neccesary. Pesronally I got 22 rwhp over the stock airbox with the FIPK. And typically you will see 5-7 rwhp over a lid.
Good Luck

It's a great product but it will draw in the hot temp from the motor, there'sa mod you can do by removing the washer fuid bottle so the motor can get globs of fresh air. Better yet ultra Z hood would be the best case. It's an open air element so you may want to re-think your thoughts. I'd go with a cold air ram kit, lid and holley filter.
Hope this helps,
Michael

You have to drop the washer fluid bottle and the deflection shroud, which does open up more fresh air to the system. Particularly when the car is static, when the airflow design is most susceptable to heat sinking. Overall it's a free mod that doesn't hack up any stock components and is easily reversable.
As far as a CAI kit, filter and a lid. Keep in mind your total component cost will generally exceed that of a FIPK, the CAI systems are susceptable to hydrolock and cannabalize the air flow from the engine cooling system.
