I use a Fram. Every time I check it, there's always a little dirt and small particles at the bottom of the airbox that never even made it through the filter. It's also still clean after two oil changes (when I replace it).

The paper filter is just more reliable and less risky to use than the K & N, which may give you 5 HP at the most. I'm not knocking K & N because of the latest GM warranty bulletin, I've always felt this way.

I lost 3rwhp with K&N and AMSOIL and NO Filter..

Consistantly and on seperate occasions.. I wont use it ever..
Its a panel vs a panel.. not a panel vs cone filter.. I think when people switch to a cone filter they have a better chance of getting more of an increase but panel vs panel paper out flows..

I've got the Holley Powershot. I wanted something that would fit my MTI Clearlid, and some people complained about the K&N, so I got the Holley instead.

Same here. My reason was I had a K&N on my 98 V6 (same air filter as LS1) and it had a gasket you had to put on and it didn't want to stay on after opening the lid a few times. The holley air filter doesn't require a gasket and is reusuable.
