Air Pump Removal

Who has removed the air pump and associated plumbing from their LS1? A friend has a 2001 Ram Air car with headers and an ORP and is considering removing the whole air system. What is required? Will the ECM set a trouble code? Is there programming in the ECM that must be removed?

Thanks in advance.

It's easy to remove the system but if you unplug the AIR pump you will throw codes. Since it's hidden anyway I remove the tubes and check valves and went with AIR block-offs on my headers. I am going to leave the AIR pump in for now and the valuve thing that sits on the back of the intake manifold as it has some vaccume lines to it. I'll see if she thros any codes. If she does I ripping it all out and getting my car LS1 edited to delete AIR injection.

I pulled everything out of my '01Z. Every so often it will through a Secondary Air System trouble code. I reset the code and on with life. It only does it every couple months. I pulled everything except the vacumn solenoid that opens and closes the one of the valves. I thought this would fool the computer into thinking it was hooked up. I also left the vacumn hookup to the carbon canister. It definitly cleans up the engine bay. Makes plug changes easier too.
Here's are a couple pics after the removal.

Can the removal of the AIR pump cause you to fail your emissions test and does it impact performance in any way?

but the AIR system dosen't really affect performance does it? besides maybe the extra weight. isn't the pump programmed to turn on from idle to i think 2700 rpms? it's not supposed to work @ wot or anywhere above 2800 rpms.

AIR does not effect performance per say.

It's when you have headers and then it's another point for leaks and also you get the check valve clicking noise.

So I say ditch them....
