I think descreening is pretty much an irreversible mod. Don't believe you can get the screen out without damaging it.

Good Luck

You can if you're VERY careful. I've done it with a simple pocket knife -- because the screen is a 'foil' type and pressed inside of a groove, it is really quite workable. By simply 'relieving' the perimeter of the screen (gently bending the edge inward and being careful not to gouge the housing) by reducing the interference to the MAF housing, it will then be able to be pushed out. Be careful not to push on the screen to hard though so that you don't squash the screen and block air flow! -- if its relieved enough, it will literary ease out. To reinstall, simply reverse the technique. See, simple

Describe the "fritzing".

In my old truck (2000 Chevy S10 Xtreme 4.3/5 speed), when I pulled the screen out, it pinged like crazy. One thing I learned is that every car is different. Different mods will make the car react differently. I ultimately had to go to a junkyard and get a MAF from an old car and pull the screen out and reinstall it.

Just use a real small flat head screwdriver and push the edge away from the body of the MAF, then push it out. To reinstall it , just push the edges back against the body.
