I know what you mean. I don't feel the torque too much. I am too used to my ol' thirdgen TPI. Tons of torque down low and nothing up top.

L98's really feel like they can move. But they don't.
Great analogy(I think thats the word? ). I couldn't agree more with those statements.

i test drove a 2000 z28, but it had 2.eightysomething i think gears and ASR on when i tried to horesplay it (the deal wasn't with us). I revved it to 2500rpm and dropped the clutch. THE THING STALLED! Even when I turned off ASR, it felt like it had to be prodded to get out of the gate. that's also how my 3800sII feels (though it actually kicks in with thrust once the tach needle sweeps past 3000rpm, don't laugh).

I think the 2.whatever gearing is really too low even for the LS1. if you have those gears, the car doesn't feel like its got 5.7l of displacement at all. 4.10s are a bit much though, wouldn't you say?

The LS1 is a motor that can back it's torque up with some h/p. My Iroc would push me in the back of my seat nut it couldn't keep me there like my Ls1 can. If you ever feel like your car is getting slower have some else drive while you try and hang on. It's a pretty good reminder.

6 speeds come standard with 3.42 rear ends. Was this car you drove stock? Was it new at the time? Because with mine, its hard to keep the car FROM spinning the wheels, let alone trying to and stalling.

I have had similar experiences myself in the Lt1... I've had friends in the car that rode with me, and though it still feels a little fast, it dosent feel as fast as when I got it, even in the passenger seat (but it helps to remind you when you're not in control anymore)

Owned a 99 Hyundai Accent (17f) - wouldnt stop screaming how fast it was
Owned a 97 Chev S10 2.2 2wd (20m) - (after commenting on how fast his old boss's 95 5.0 automatic mustang was and there was no way I would be that fast) It was called a "Land Jet"
Fiancee - a 98v6 Mustang - EVERY time I punch it she grabs for something.

The L98 Feels fast, but it's really not. The Lt1 feels pretty fast, it kindof is, and the Ls1 dosent feel fast, but it REALLY is. Again, gearing makes all the difference, even with the lighter engine, my Lt1 just seems to push me into the seat and "leap" when I drop gears, but I ran LS1's that I drove in, and though I feel faster, my Lt1 isnt. I would actually get him off the line though, but after 1st gear, he was gone and never coming back...

C5's rule though...

I think the LS1 was designed that way for a purpose. I would say the LT1 was a little spooky for someone not used to the bottom end power. On a long road trip I would feel worn out driving it. The LS1 is a car that anyone can drive and not feel that much different from other cars.....until you get the rpms past a certain point.

Actually, they both have it, the A4 and the M6. I have a friend with a Firehawk w/6-speed, and he has ls1 edit and he removed the torque management from his car, and he said it made a huge difference! When I get mine tuned (after heads and cam that is), that's definately one of the things i'm getting removed.

it was brand new off the lot with barely 50 miles on it. i think it had the 2.73 gears. some are ordered that way when the 'touring package' or somesuch option is checked. i know for sure it had 2.xx because i remember noting how low they were and cruising 70mph in 6th had the engine at "near idle" somewhere just above 1500rpm or 1700rpm (can't remember but either is pretty low).

Hey
The ratio for 6th gear is .50, so yes, cruising along at 70 mph you will only be at about 1500 RPM. If that car was stock, it had 3.42 rear end like all M6's. If it wasnt stock thats a different story, but you said it was new.

Yeah, that almost sounds right for the 3.42's... MAYBE 3.23's... Heck, at 80mph in 6th with 3.42's I'm barely 2000rpm!

So... at 6000rpm I could be going 240mph?!?! I wish I could get there though

Torque is what makes the car feel fast. When you pound the gas the torque pushes you back into your seat. As a driver of these cars you come to get used to the torque provided by these cars. So if you own another car thats slower than your LS1 try driving that around for a couple of days, then go back to your LS1. The slower your other car is the better. When my car was in the shop for a couple of days I had to borrow my mom's GMC Safari Van. Man that thing is SLOOOOOOOW. Then when I hopped back into my Z, it felt like I was driving a rocket on land. It felt so much faster than ever b4. We take our cars acceleration for granted. When we drive something truely slowonly then do we come back to realize how fast our cars are.

I have 4.10's and they must make all the difference because I have always felt like my car has mad torque. Hell I spun all through first, all through second, and only grabbed midway through 3rd on dry pavement today, and I sqeaked 4th when i hit it. I love the way my car feels.

i definitely agree with the 'getting used to it'
i drive my old 5 speed jeep like we are one and the same being
i shift hard all the time, i dont flinch but people in the passenger seat just about whack their head on the glove compartment

its not exactly the smoothest tranny...
