Post Anyone try to buy a new Firebird lately?

Here's what I found when I went searching for a Trans Am last weekend here in the Philly area.

I searched inventories on gmbuypower.com and then I called almost every dealer in Eastern PA to find out what they had in stock. Same story everywhere... either they say, "We sold our last one a while ago and we aren't getting any more in." or they say, "We've got one, but we're selling it at MSRP."

So I finally find a few dealers willing to haggle but the best I can do is about a grand under sticker. And before you jump to conclusions... I'm pretty good at negotiations... it's just that the supply is drying up big time now.

I found numerous Camaros, a few WS6 Trans Ams, but almost no Formulas, non-ram air Trans Ams, SS models, and the like.

It's already started. :-( Our babies are disappearing. I'm glad to have snapped one up while I still had the chance.

Glad to hear that you got one. I'm currently unemployed and frustrated that I can't take the financial risk to get one. I have my father's GMS discount, and a Legends Tour cert. My luck will be that when I finally get a job, the dealer stocks will be gone

Good luck with the job search... it's a rough market out there. I hope that the timing is right for you to get an F-body.

Glad y ou picked one up before it was gone.

I ran into the same thing when I was looking to replace my Z28. I wanted a WS6, and nobody was coming off sticker, at all.

2002? You pay $33,000

2001? You pay $26,000

Along with the frustration is that Chevy is offering the 0% financing for 5 years. This really bites!

Somebody hire me so that I can go out and obtain the last bastion of affordable GM horsepower

Cool

Try this one on for size... my dad has a '69 Mustang Mach I with a "warmed over" 428CJ. I don't want to line up against him at the track until I KNOW I can take him. ;-)

The only consolation is that he'll have his '71 Chevelle up and running soon, too.

Just traded in my V6 for an NHRA edition Formula. Not much room to neg....but I did get $800 off of ther sticker and the best part is the 0 financing. I pick it up tommorow night. Sticker was 28,500. I had to trade in the v6, simply becuase I needed an LS1 f-body and in a few months the only thing left on dealers lots will be the v6's if anything at all.

I really doubt that discontinuing the f-body will impact it's resale value on a used car. They'll still depreciate faster than anything. Of course, you don't buy one of these cars for an investment!

I was lucky and got my 02 Z28 in Feb for 2K off MSRP with a 2K rebate, and then 5.9% GMAC too. My car stickered at 28k and I got it for 24.

Good luck searching!

O.K. I'll add my two cents. I ordered my 2002 SS in July/August and it was delivered in October. I only paid 500 over invoice plus the 0 percent financing. I personally wouldn't by a car for more than 500 over invoice (what they "claim" they pay for the car) unless I really wanted it and it really was hard to get what I wanted. I've bought cars at invoice before. I know as of 2 1/2 months ago when my dad got his Firehawk there were still a lot of just about anything but firehawks out there. Now the Firehawk was very hard to find and even harder to negotiate but even then he paid like 1500 over invoice which was about 1000 to 1500 under sticker. I think there are still cars out there but it sounds like you may have to travel out of your area/state to get a good deal. Or if you really want the car then considering the 0 percent financing, paying sticker isn't quite so bad. Just my thoughts.

edit: I just searched www.gmbuypower.com and found quite a few trans ams, a few formulas, and quite a few ws6s in the San Antonio and Austin area.

Thumbs up

If it wasn't for the 0% apr, I don't think I would have been able to afford the car. Actually, I KNOW I wouldn't have bought it. It's saving me probably $5000-6500 over the course of the loan.
