Talking

would depend on driver, weather, elevation, and possibly even which one is broken in..

Too many variables.. Most people dont even keep their cars stock long enough to make a pass.. I have personally witnessed a 2001 make a 13.5 sec pass.. but he was using slicks.. he was straight from the showroom floor (not broken in) and using slicks.. I was dissapointed mainly because he could of just make a pass with the standard tires..

My car is at 2500 miles and still bone stock.. not even free mods. While I do not have an SS, I dont see how its hood will help it in the 1/4 mile.

If not this sunday, then by the next for sure.. I will have made a pass at HRP(Houston Raceway Park) and have kept my car bone stock.

Free mods are mods.. I want to know what the car runs, at a track, with 0 mods whatsoever.

tomorrow is 0mod dyno for a baseline.. I am adding the cost of the dyno to my modifications so that I can get an accurate idea of the benefits from the mods I can expect.

A WS6 and SS both made in the same year should have identical times. Many people claim that a Ws6 has more hp because it has better ram air. This may true but most WS6 are also trans ams which way more than an SS because of Ground effects etc. So in the end, both cars run virtually the same. I ran my SS bone stock and got a 13.4 in an auto.

although you say that they should be identical they are not the same times i have seen on many shows like car and driver and hot rod tv also read in magazines that the trans am will beat the ss most of the time do to the hood it is a more effective ram air set up than the ss but as for weather or not they are the same times all i can go by is what i have read.

I saw some test between alot of cars and the TA beat the SS. They said for some odd rason the TA hooked alot better.

However, different SS's will run different times, so thats really a dead end. Bone stock, its generally aknowledged that LS1s are good for 13 flat at the extreme low end (Perfect conditions, incredible track prep, amazing driver) to high 13s (Automatic, extreme heat, poor track prep, bad driver) If your LS1 is in the 14s, theres something wrong, either with the car, or the conditions.

1/4 mile times depend on alot of different things, the track condition, weather, DRIVER, Car, my 99 Z28 M6 went 13.4's @ 108 bone stock with 875 miles on it, at 600 miles the car was going, 13.2's. with an air box, k&n, exhaust, shifter, & nitto D/radials the car ran 12.8s @ 111.00. My 02'SS M6 bone stock (came with center mount exhaust) went 13.1's @ 109 with 1100 miles, car has 9000 now & feels alot stronger. Never go by magazine & TV times they are rarely accurate.

Well, my car ran 14.12 @ 101 with a 2.1 60' time about three weeks ago, and there were other F-bodies there running in the 14's as well. I think I'd have to blame poor track prep for that one though, cause there was a guy running a 2001 Z28 M6 with headers and he only ran a best of 13.9 (yet he said last year he ran a 13.5). In regards to my car, I know that 2.73 gears aren't going to help my 1/4 mile time, but the track was really slick that night, and I can tell you for a fact that "driver error" was not a problem in my case - I've done enough racing, and an auto is pretty hard to f### up with. At least from here on in, I'll be able to tell how every piece I add to the car affects its performance. I've already bought a new lid and a K&N and I'll see how they've helped things out next Friday night --- I want to go to the track one more time this year and I've got my fingers crossed for a 13.something!!!!!

ELEVATION! "psychocabbage" has hit on the most important thing. In order to be on equal ground, every E.T. posted on here should be corrected for elevation like the NHRA does for their National Records. (at least the elevation should be posted with the E.T.)

If a car is running the 14's and is at a track at 2,500 ft. elevation, that same car would easily be running one full second faster at sea level. I'm new to this board, but have been drag racing since the mid sixties off and on, (giving away my old age here) but really guys, you can't compare E.T.'s and be on a level playing field without correction for elevation, and possibly ambient temp, air density, etc.

The comparisons mean NOTHING if not adjusted for these elements.

Just my .02, opinions may vary.

Good luck,
