bad ping after mod install

My 2000 WS6 was stock till today. I put an SLP lid on and a superchips and a ported MAF. Now when it gets to about 4k rpms it pings like hell. Do ya think the MAF is doing it? I have a ported MAF and a superchips on my C5 and don't have any problems at all.

Yeah...some 00's are known for ping after a few mods. It's either because of too much timing or not enough fuel. Your hand held and ported maf would have definitely leaned it out. See if you can add fuel to the PE and maybe pull timing back a couple of degrees with your hand held.

Re: bad ping after mod install

AFAIK, the Superchips has about the same capabilities as the Hypertech I have, which is, well, pretty limited. I had the exact same problem with my car and the Hypertech. With their "power tuning" installed, the car would ping like crazy by ~5000+ RPM. That was even running Sunoco 94 octane!! It became very apparent on the dyno, so I pulled the Hypertech tuning, and did 2 more pulls and got pretty much the same power, but no more pinging. The guys at the shop ran an A/F reading while the car was on the dyno, and while it showed that the A/F in fact was slightly richer WITH the tuning, obviously the timing was WAY too far advanced as well?

I'd leave engine tuning/programming for the pro's or a get a programmer that can actually dial in fuel and timing curves to suit your car . You can probably leave the MAF, just ditch the tuning for now.

Re: bad ping after mod install

bad things happen when people screw with the factory MAF

First try putting the stock MAF in and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, put the ported MAF in and remove the tuning. If that doesn't fix it, remove the tuning and put the factory MAF back in.

Put the stock MAF back on an see what happens.
Pull the power tuning and see what happens.
My 2000 when it was fairly stock didn't like the Hypercrap tuning (caused knock retard = to the extra timing that it added) but the ported MAF was fine.
Each car/area/gas is different.
