Belt squeek on 2000 Z28 A4

I had the car down in 1st gear, and floored it from a stop and forgot to shift, hit the rev limmiter. the car seems fine now but its makeing a squeeking noise that i think is comming from the belt.

What should I do?

Check to see if there is anything on the belts. Mine started squeaking when the waterpump was leaking.

After checking for that go ahead and get a Gatorback belt and see if that doesn't help ya out some.

you have 4 idler pulleys/tensioner pulleys i would check first. remove the front belt see if it goes away, then remove the second belt. maybe a water pump bearing. maybe you spun a main or rod bearing. hows your oil pressure?

If you just bumped against the revlimiter, don't worry too much. I know of a few people (from missed shifts) that do it all the time. Not that you should do this, but the revlimiter is a safety feature. If your car broke whenever you hit it, they could have saved money by not programming for your fuel to cut off.

I've had similar sqeeking problems in my LS1, and I can't seem to get it fixed. The idler pully and all belts have been replaced, some on several ocassions, but it always comes back. It is starting to get worse now that its cold again.

The problem went away completely after the parts were replaced. It reappeared about 8 months later though, actually fairly recently it has come back. So either something wasn't replaced that needed to be, or for whatever reason the engine is just tearing through belts.

I may look into getting some belt dressing tomorrow and see if that doesnt help at all.

Don't! Belt dressing is total crap; gets all over the place and has NEVER helped the problem, let alone solved it, in my experience.
