I agree with even the smallest hole plate installed in the Borla, it is droning loud on the highway (without Cat internals anyway). I could never bring myself to block off the right side with a solid plate (muffler bypass path) entirely though. It would have seemed like a big waste. However, I could only use the smallest hole plate. Anything bigger and the cops would follow me from every stop light and I would take forever to accelerate so as not to draw attention when they were around. As a result, my wife did not care for it and would refuse to drive the car.
With an electric exhaust cutout, I don't mind running 100% through the muffler, as I can open it up whenever I want to get rowdy. From the Flowmasters that I have heard, I think the Borla is slightly quieter through the muffler.
I have had the Borla since 1998. Granted, I noted an increase in exhaust volume when I installed the JBA jet hot headers.
