Brand New '02 SS
My frind just bought a brand new 2002 SS with 200 miles on it. What are some of the first mods that he can start doing. I dont really know the LS1 that well Im a TPI guy as you an see in my sig. So what should he do a new lid or how does a cut out work on the LS1 vs. full exaust?
Thanks guys

Pretty much the first things you want to do is free up the air in and out of the LS1. Those mods are usually the least expensive too. Also, he will probably want to get rid of the CAGS system. (first to fourth shift) So, you are looking at a K&N, Air Lid, MAF, and exhaust should get him started. Of course, don't take my word for it, search around here for something like "first mods" or "what should I do?"

There are a lot of mods he can do first...have your friend drop me an email. I'll be happy to explain the different mods to him as well as make some recommendations.

Like someone said earlier, intake and exhaust are usually the first place people start. That's what I did as well.

422 ci engine, roadrace oil pan, beefier oil pump + accusump and oil cooler, powersteering cooler, LT headers, baffled fuel cell and a nice fuel pump, beefed up syncro's, aftermarket clutch, driveshaft, 12 bolt, Movit brakes front and back, 17x11 with 315's all around, suspension stuff, front alignment, racing seats with 5 point harnesses, rollcage with digcamera mount, auto firesuppresion, and a datalogger.
I guess you could get a lid and catback too.

i would suggest getting the K&N FIPK, which is the whole intake kit, instead of just the lid and drop-in filter. It allows you to take in a lot larger volume of air compared to the drop-in filter. Also with the FIPK you smooth out the air flow by replacing those ribbed tubes with smooth ones. Its also got a nice set up and looks clean!
