broken bolt
i have a friend with an 2000 z28 that has the crankshaft bolt broken off in the snout for the harmonic balancer. any idea's on how to get this off? and does the crankshaft snout pass all the way through the dampner?

Re: broken bolt
Bolt shouldn't be bottomed out or rusted in, so a lot of force should not be required to back it out. So standard bolt removal procedure should produce results. Center drill the bolt, starting with a good quality, sharp (new) 1/8 drill bit on the highest speed drill you can get your hands on, i.e., a 1/4 drill is better than a 3/8 cause they usually spin faster. Small drill bits require high speed, center punch it and keep it straight and square on both planes. Then drill it with a 3/16 or 1/4, at slower speed, for the appropriate easy out.
