Burnout Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok guys, i was turning out of school today in my school parking lot and tehy all told me to lite them up... So i reved to 4 grand and dumped the clutch... tires spun hard... then shifted to 2nd.. still spinning then to 3rd... Ok, i am only 17 and a newb driver to the stick shift... is there a way i can almost power brake the car.. My first car was an auto and u could just power brake that thing. I wanna be able to just stand still and let them spin... maybe w/o shifting? The car rolls when i do the burnout and there isn't much smoke . Eagle F1's suck anyway i think. But can i get ur advise and thanks

This is not intended to be a flame.. just what came to mind when I first read the post..

So you want us to tell you a better way to waste money by burning off your tires so you can impress a bunch of your high school friends? How about a different approach.. when they tell you to light'em up.. tell them to fork over money to see it. At least then when you have to replace tires or a cop sees you and slaps you with a ticket you are not taking it up the @$$ completly to impress a bunch of kids who you will likely not see after high school. Just my opinion, it is your car, your tires, and your money (or maybe your parents car, tires, and money).. either way.

In my old '97 Z28 M6 I would drop the clutch at 4K and then take the clutch foot over and hit the brake before the car really got moving. Then I would sit and power brake for awhile.

Like the other post.dump the clutch to get the tires spinning and lightly press the brake pedal enough just to hold the car in place.Looks cool but its expensive I know from fact not my opinion. The tires on these cars arent cheap.Have fun

1. If I am the idiot then I can not imagine what that makes you for being the one going nuts over some friendly advice.

2. As long as I am a member in good standing with this message board I will reply to any post I feel the need to in any manner in which I choose.

3. Back to be being an idiot would you please explain what power braking is and how it becomes useful? Think it has something to do with holding the car still while your RPM's go up? So you want to know how to power brake a M6 huh? I am sorry, I have lost once again how I am the idiot.

And finally:
4. I never told you not to burn your tires to impress who ever you wanted. I stated my opinion and then said it is your car to do with what you want. So do not try to flame a person, whom you can not possible compete with in a mental level, for stating their opinion. I am sorry that I pointed out to you and everyone on this board that I felt what you were doing was immature and in that way left the door open for your embarrassment. One day when you are a little older you will understand how stupid you were when you were younger. Like we all do. Now I will let you post your most likely unworthy refute to my claims, but unless you have something worthy of my time I will not reply. I try not to argue with an idiot, passer bys dont know which one is which.

Another fun way with out having to touch the brakes: Drop the clutch at 5000 while having the steering wheel cranked all the way to the left. Your car will do a nice 360 will creating a nice amount of smoke. Just don't hit anyone of anything!

I had a camaro in highschool as well and while I almost killed myself multiple times there was nothing better then having fun with my car. I went through two cars, two transmissions, a power streeing pump, two brake jobs, and 4 sets of tires. I did get pulled over 11 times but I only ended up paying two tickests, a photo cop ticket and a "loss of traction" ticket.

Yes that was a lot of my money but hey it was a blast and I taught myseff a lot about driving and fixing cars.

Hehehe, all I can say is I wish I could of afforded a Z when I was in high school! I would probably have done exactly what StylezZ28 is doing right now. Your only young once, try to have as much fun now (safely ofcourse) and be the object of attention. Will it cost you money????......sure, will cost you time and parts????.....most likely. But hey, if you got the $$$$ and you don't mind spending it replacing tires and brake pads and/or tickets then LIGHT THEM UP Or you can be like me....29 yrs old, just got my first camaro last month and the wife gives me the NASTIEST look if I step on the gas pedal and accelerate quicker that her minivan could LOL Other than that, I have no idea how to powerbrake lol!

Have fun,
Travis

Cool

I agree with 35th, consider getting a linelock. I tried burning out and tapping the brake with poor success. With the linelock, it is most excellent. I'm 40 years old and I can tell you, when you don't enjoy lighting up the tires, you're low testosterone level now classifies you as a woman.

Well... I hesitated at first to respond to this because I personally think it's a very dangerous thing to be rolling through a parking lot full of high school students (I politefully didn't say kids ), burning the rear tires, espacially when you don't have a whole heck of a lot of car control experience.

But then I thought about it. You're gonna do it anyway. We did it when I was in high school and everybody (except school faculty) really loved the show. The safest way for you to do a burnout in a manual car is with a line lock. What it does is trap pressure in the brake lines going to the front wheels and releases the pressure in the rear wheel brake lines. Your front tires are safely planted and hold you absolutely still as you burn off all that expensive 275/40/17 rubber. Hey, they're F1's. They suck anyway. You really want a set of Kuhmo Ecsta 712 Supras anyway. But then you most likely won't want to sit and roast them.

Anyway, back to the subject.
Go here and select your line lock.
http://store.summitracing.com/section.asp?d=15&s=155
Install it with some of your buddies who know how to work on cars.
Activate it.
Rev up to about 3,000 and drop the clutch.
Enjoy all the smoke.

BTW - Be sure to wash all that rubber out of your wheelwells before you take your car in for service or they'll be likely to accuse you of drag racing and try to void your warranty.

don't u get get it, I DIDN'T ASK FOR UR OPINION. If the topic was UR OPINION ON BURNOUTS ur post would have provided some meaning. Plz if ur gonna respond, plz make it useful and something people will wanna read. NO one cares about ur opinion on burning tires. And so i am young and immature? are u gonna tell me to stop because of that? oh wait i forgot u probably never did that as a kid, u were an angel.

Thank u to all that posted with useful information. I am still a young driver so i am still kinda learning and 2002Z28SSConv not many people in my school got double early release, just me and my buddies so no one was really there except them watchin. I may be young but not as foolish as some. I appreciate the info on line locks, but last question... does that void warrenty? my car is brand spanken new and my dad would kill me if i put something on that voided it Hes a mechanic and has his own shop and all. He would notice instantly if i did something to it!

As 6SpeedZ28 said... does that work for u guys? cuz i could def try that.

bradyb - Haha sweet, but not enough room for that in my parking lot. we got 400 cars in it and all spaces are filled. The only reason why i can even do a burnout is because we kinda have an isle just for driving out that crosses the parking lot.

Thanks again.

Everyone gave good advice, but there is no reason to do a 4K clutch dump to get the tires spinning. Your LS1 will break 'em loose much easier than that

Ummm, yeah... Tell your buddy that there is a switch above the radio that says "ASR". Tell him the next time he tries to power brake, press the switch first.

As for kids with Z28s... They are the reason we all pay so much for insurance on these cars.
