Buying a LS1

I am thinking of buying a 2000 z28 ls1 with a supercharger and borla exhaust. It should be faster than my cam only lt1 right? Only problem is it is a M6 and I never really learned to drive a stick. He wants 5k for it and I might go for it even though I do not know how to drive it yet. How long will it take me to learn and what would you guys do? It has a clear title with no accidents and is super clean. I am trying to find out how many mi are on the supercharger, what boost is being used, what clutch, injectors, fuel pump and tune is on this car. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/img_po...&isStock=false It is a s-trim supercharger; I hope he was not running over 8psi on it.

that sounds like a hell of a deal. It shouldnt take long learning to drive it. Took me a couple days and alot of driving around till i was comfortable with it. Will you be parting out your lt1 if you buy this?

Once you learn to drive a stick you will love it. Give it a few days and you will be on your way. 5k sounds like a pretty good deal.

GREAT deal if everything check out ok. You won't need to put much of a clutch in it...probably using the injectors and stuff that came with the SC kit. Probably the stock fuel pump... that's all you need.

I am trying to have the guy describe the condition of the motor, trans and rear end. He has not responded; might be because it has problems. I emailed him saying I wanted the car if it was in good running condition, I do not want to drive 170+ mi to find the car in bad running condition. We will see if he responds, he is supposed to email me the vin# and describe the driving condition of the car. It looks clean, if it runs as clean as it looks it's a deal.

Are you kidding You honestly think someone is selling a 2000 z28 with those miles for 5k. Even if the car was stock the price is a no go Add the supercharger and whatever else was done. I don't think so Holy crap. I bet you would'nt ask 5k obo for your lt1. This is some Putts who put the car up there to be a jerk.

You might be right. I think the motor is a smoker or you are right on target. I do not have a phone number or I would call him. bluebook is like 7,500; I will be shocked if he responds with all the info. I would sell my z28 for 5k though; I have been trying to git it to run good for over 6 months now. I am so aggravated with it that I even contemplated buying a 2003 or 2004 cobra.

I would not buy a car with an aftermarket SC'er on it PERIOD. You have no idea what kind of abuse it's been through, or when it's going to pop. Usually when people sell cars with blowers, it's because it's on it's last leg or they don't want to keep fixing it anymore.

When was the last time you shopped for an LS1? The book on that Z28 with that milage is $5500, remember mods don't add to the value so it doesn't matter if the car is 24k gold it's still worth nothing. You can find plenty of LS1's with those miles and that price range these days so this doesn't necessarily have to be a bad deal with a screwed up engine and drivetrain.

Hey Johnny you offering your car up for 6k or 5k any time soon. Pls show all the 00z28's with 70xxxmi in good condition for 5.5k. Have you even looked in the forsale section here? There's lt1's going for that or more. The ones that are less are junk......... You should inform the guy's with modded lt1 and ls1's over there they should hope they get book value. Who pays book anyway? The book is a guide. Every body wants to always pay less then book. Plain and simple its a bullship ls1 car for 5k. I would say if its true sometime is fishy going on, either car or person... But all I know is when the time is right for someone to sell a 01 som z28 I'm gonna get a great deal

If i *were* selling my car then i would sell it for what it's worth, no one is going to buy an overpriced mild modified F-body, we're not talking about a 100% drag car here, this is just a Z28 with a S/C no huge deal whatsoever. Here's what i came up with in 5 minutes of searching:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

That's only the Camaro's i didn't even look at TA's. You need to come to realization that 4th gens aren't worth much anymore, it's sad but true, i would love for my Z28 to be worth $19,000 again like a few years ago but the value on these cars is literally dropping daily. Yeah there are too many people out there trying to sell their LT1 or LS1 for way more than it's worth but guess what? No one is going to bite, here's a perfect example: My friend is getting stationed in Japan, he has a black 2002 SS with a few mods in excellent condition fully loaded and 64k miles. He started the price at $10,000 it sat there for almost 3 months with no one interested, this was with newspaper ads, autotrader etc. etc. Then he dropped it to $8,000 and finally a month ago he sold it for $7700!!! That's a ****ing steal, i almost bought it But it just goes to show you that in this market no one is going to pay much for a 4th gen.

EDIT: Hey Mike or Al, can we make this a sticky? You know something like "News flash!! Nice LS1's are now available in the $5000 dollar range" I'm really tired of explaining this to people
