Talking CAGS.. why does it bother some of you so much?

Admittedly I have only had my car for 1 month and 1 day. But it does not bother me AT ALL.
Why is it such an issue with many of you?
It is only active when you are going dog slow so why would you want 2nd gear. You are already going damn slow with very little RPM.

I have yet to find a time where I am left thinking "damnit! I want 2nd now!"....

Besides, you can go half into 4th then right into 2nd if you want.. or just skip 4th and go up into 3rd...

I have thought about getting one but it doesn't bother me as much now. Only has car 3 weeks. Like you said you don't have to go into fourth. Just keep the clutch in and go into third. I usually give first enough gas to not worry about it anymore. Sometimes I'll just shift into second right away. Our cars have this to meet EPA standards, but since I usually give first a good amount of gas my mileage sucks anyhow and the car is new. My dealer service manager asked to if I wanted to install one. I might still order one.

It doesn't bother me one bit. I actually like it. It is easy to "override"

It's a pain because when I'm driving and just taking it easy, I'll go to shift into second, and it's locked. If I go ahead and let it slide into 4th, typically the RPM's are around 900 and the car bogs.
I typically give it a little more gas and wait for the "skip shift" light to go out and put it in 3rd. It's not a BIG deal, just a bit of a pain.

I dont like the idea of a computer telling me where to shift. I'll shift when and to where I want to. The fact is that when I'm out cruising, I'll sometimes be going just slow enough for CAGS to kick in, and it just pisses me off, cuz i expect to be able to put it in 2nd, but NO i've got a bar telling me to go into 4th.....Also, when your goin slow that doesn't mean that you might not want to give it some gas in 2nd.... with CAGS you go first to fourth.... and trust me, you get no pickup in 4th when your engine is at about 1200rpm.

Cool

I agree with black Z, its the principal of the thing. Its not difficult to override but its like having your dad in the car telling you to "slow down" "take it easy"... I ordered a skip-shift eliminator but it dosn't work and Im to lazy to send it back so I just ignore it now. Maybe this will give me the incentive to get off my lazy @ss and get a new one.

well, I guess I just dont get annoyed with gas saving features these days.. I dont run it hard unless I have ample room ahead and if there is cause for it.. If it kicks in, its no big deal and I try to make a game of it.. Besides I think its a kewl feeling to slide into 4th...

thanks for the replies.. I was just wondering why so many people seem to hate it enough to consider it a "mod" that people should do right off the bat...

I know I wont be doing it on my car..

I didn't mind it for the first few weeks either. Probably because my car never saw below 3000 rpms in first gear for the first few weeks. Get caught in a traffic jam a few times and you will see how much of a pain in the *** it can be.

Exactly what Leatherneck said, if you drive in the city very much you'll know why we hate it. A lot of times your going to fast for first but not fast enough for fourth.

If you shift into second immediately after starting out you can avoid the skipshift. This is what I do in traffic and I deal with traffic constantly living in Southern Cal. Also ours cars have so much torque sometimes I'll just startout in second.

And another reason why its nice to go to 2nd instead of 4th is that you never know when a mustang is going to roll up next to you and you dont want to waste time shifting back into a lower gear.

I know my car is only an LT1, but I hate it so much now I'm in a situation where I have to fix my whole entire clutch system to get it back to where it was before..very smooth and responsive. A split second I totally forgot about it, and it got stuck in 2nd gear and spun out(did this 6 or 7 times) now it has hard shifting and my car feels very slow now.

Ok... well if I am going to race I know I am going to race.. If you are being surprised by cars on the road mysteriously appearing next to you I think you need to pay more attention to your driving...
