How did I get you lost? I previously said "I know my car is a LT1" and this forum is for the newer engine that is currently out, which is the LS1. So I decided to post my experience with the CAGS. That's all

My biggest reason for eliminating it was 1 turn that I have to make from a light to get to work. Here in Central Florida, we have a bunch of "white hairs" (no offence, my parents meet this classification). Anyway, it is a "low speed" area and to make the light sometimes you need second gear to do it, not forth. Alas, if I punched 1st, I would have the "Boys in Green" pulling my butt over.

I guess my reason for shelling out $30 to eliminate CAGS was that I couldn't get used to it. I've always driven manuals, and being locked out of a gear never ceased to be surprising, epsecially since I never see the "skip shift" light go on. I like that the light still comes on, I just take it as a recommendation now

The odd thing to me is the CAGS in the C5 doesn't seem to be nearly as sensitive as the F-body. I drove a C5 home from work a couple of times (mixed traffic) and it only activated once. The Camaro seems to kick it on all the time.

...oh Tucdog, I used to surf at Cocoa Beach all the time (grew up in central Florida). Does the CBPD still throw the empty weekend cop car out on 528 to scare those of us hauling in from Orlando?

This feature drove me friggin' insane. I've never had anything but a manual, and am quite used to shifting when and where I want. 1st to 4th gear? Come on man ! WTF is that all about ? I put in CAGS and it's like having my car back in MY hands. The light comes on dozens of times a day and I just smile and shift

Cool

Mine doesn't bother me at all either. I have the SLP dual center exhaust and get off on the rumble. So I never shift before 3,000 RPM or so. By then the light is out and I can hit 2nd.

I know my car is only an LT1, but I hate it so much now I'm in a situation where I have to fix my whole entire clutch system to get it back to where it was before..very smooth and responsive. A split second I totally forgot about it, and it got stuck in 2nd gear and spun out(did this 6 or 7 times) now it has hard shifting and my car feels very slow now.

I can't figure out how a CAGS can get you stuck in 2nd gear and make you spin out. What the he!! are you doing? I'm really not trying to be a jerk but if you lose control of your car because your 2nd gear is available, you need some driving lessons. That just doesn't make sense. And then to say that your entire clutch system is messed up now... I still can't see how making 2nd gear available would mess up your clutch.

Yes, Brevard County still loves to put cars out on I-95 with nobody in them.

I hate it because the rpm is tooooo low for fourth gear. not once have i skip shifted and have the rpms right, its always at 900 or lower. i dont understand why gm would want us to drive at such a low rpm.

It was a minor annoyance, but since the fix is free, why not? I used the PCM version of the CAGS eliminator -- pull PCM, pull a wire or two, put it all back. No muss, no fuss.

if I need to skip some shifts I think I can pick what gear I want.
cause after all it is a manual.

Your all talking about how you don't like it, I assume you have over-ridden it....? The reason GM did it is to pass the CAFE fuel consumption regulations. It does suck but I had it defeated about a day after I got my car, with a $1 resistor. See installuniversity.com

Well I guess I'm 1 out of so many millions of Camaro Z28, it got stuck and spunned out. No I wasn't on pot or anything like that I actually saw this with my own eyes. I thought it would block it from going into 2nd gear but it didn't. Since then my shifting has been terrible. I think my car is slow because of the PO400 EGR Malfuntion. So therefore now I have to get it fix because I wasn't paying attention.

I guess I 'short-shifted' my '87 Cavalier Z24 - I liked the car but couldn't keep it out of the dealer's shop, so I swore off GM junk and joined the 4 cyl turbo AWD crowd for 10 years. In all that time, I never got use to the lack of bottom end power... I would always shift at 3K, just as the power came on. Annoying.

But stepping in to the M6 Camaro, this is fine. CAGS kicks in twice a week maybe, so I won't bother removing it. And I get 18 MPG (US gallon) on my daily commute.

Question

How much of a difference in mileage is there with/without CAGS?
