Catback lower value of my car?
I been saving for my LS1 for some time but in the mean time I own the car in my sig. I will prolly keep it for another year or so. I want exhaust on my car and I know a place I can get everything for about $160. I would hope that exhaust wouldn't lower the value of my car. I would sell the car on my own and I wanna make a profit off the catback. I would think the people interested in buying my car would be the sporty type of people that likes a nice exhaust sound...right?

It all depends on who wants your car.
Basically, if a younger guy looks at it, obviously it will be better for him. Most older buyers/ picky younger buyers want an unmolested car. Honestly, if my Z had an aftermarket exhaust on it, I probably would not have bought it, but thats just me.
If you have a sound system and other interior mods done, you might as well do the exhaust too. At least it will sound good for you while you own it.

Personally, I wouldn't do it...I'd save the money (put it into the mod money jar for the future LS1).
To your question, it really depends on the buyer. To one person it could mean: I was going to buy a catback but this car already has one...cool.
To someone else, it could mean: Hmmm, exhaust...this car has probably been "beat-on" a little.
I wouldn't expect the exhaust alone to decrease the value of your car but don't expect to get $160 over NADA or KBB value just because you spent $160 in modifications. It just doesn't work like that and trust me, when it comes time to sell your car...and you've got a potential buyer, you will not give two s**ts about that 160 bucks. If you're asking 6000 and he/she says, I'll give you 5800...your response should be: "sold!"
Hell, I dropped $500 off of what I was asking for my '96 because I sold it to a friend, I'm a nice guy and I couldn't wait to get my '02 (I was pretty excited so $500 didn't really mean that much to me).

Just my .02 ...... My cat back system (SLP Loudmouth) on my 96 Z actually helped sell it. The guy actually loved the sound and bought the car. But I also wasn't planning on selling the car when I bought the exhaust or I would not have bought it.. hang onto the $$ for the LS1 believe me you'll need it.... because there is always somthing else you'll want to get next!

Every catback i have ever heard on a 6 popper F bod has sounded horrible. I would think it would lower the value of your car when it comes time to sell it. Def keep the OEM exhaust if you decide to buy one... and make sure you listen to a bunch before you make that decision.

If your that worried, keep your stock catback. When you do sell your car, reinstall the stock catback, and sell off the aftermarket catback seperately.
Else, don't expect anybody to pay extra cause its an aftermarket system.. Also, it will definantly lower the value of your car if it bangs and rattles on bumps.
You really can't make a profit off cars, unless its truely a limited edition highly sought after collector car... and in that case, the more stock/original, the better.
