Cheapest way to get an LS1 into the 9's

alright... i know it's not going to be cheap at all, but im looking for the cheaper way to get into the 9's starting on a stock ls1. do i go all motor, or should i go w/ a SC or a turbo setup? i really dont want to spray in it... but i probably will, lol

how can i get into the 9's all motor, and how much would it cost me? the most ive seen a 346 ls1 engine go is 450-500 hp

how can i get into the 9's w/ a turbo setup? what do i need to do to the car to get there? and would it be cheaper than going n/a?

ehh... only problem i have w/ the turbo setup is that a lot of my friends told me to stay away from turbos because if the turbo dies, it's a bitch and a pain in the *** to fix, not to mention time consuming.

i'd rather go n/a, but depending on the cost, imma have to go w/ the cheapest route. i can spend about 10-15 grand on mods within a 1 to 2 year period...

just wanna hear some suggestions... thanks guys

also...my friend told me to go all motor to about 450 hp, put a supercharger on it, and then spray.... he said that's what he would do, but i still wanna ask you guys on here what you'd do if you had the money to get yourself in the 9's. hehe

JATO

http://www.darwinawards.com/

Use the search function at the bottom of the page.

Search for JATO

On the plus side, it'll still be your normal daily driver...until you hit the button.

haha!!! oh man i heard about that and the guy put a JATO (Jet Assistaed Take Off) rocket on top of his 67 impala went out to a LONG straight away in the desert got up to about 80mph hit the button and he was doing 350 mph in 4 seconds or less saw a slight turn in the road so tap'd his brakes and that left a mile and a half long skid mark till his brakes melted then supposively hit a small bump and it launched him up about a 100 foot into the side of a mountain where they found the aftermath..... lol but yea sure that'll get ya in the 9's real quick bud!...

Go to an 1/8 mile track.

Simple as that.

You're gonna have to completely redo the whole drivetrain to be able to take the kind of power it'll take to run 9's.

You might be able to gain some by weight reduction, but putting that much power through the 4L60E and a 10 bolt is gonna be a mess if you do it very often.

First ... how fast have you ever taken anything down the track???

Second, if you get a 346 stock block LS1 to go 9s N/A , I believe you would be the first.

Third, though gettting to 450 rwhp on a stock block LS1 is possible, few have done it and the claims of those that have, has been dubious ... ie, even fewer can produce the track numbers to back up thier HP claims.

Last, just putting together the HP package will only be one part of your puzzle. You will need to do some serious weight management coupled with some extensive work of your suspension, drive train and tire set up ... by the time you're done you will essentially a dragster in an F-body shell. It might be streetable in the strictest sense of the word, but for all intents and purposes it would no longer be practical ... yeah you might drive it to and from the track, but that is probably about the extent of what you would do with it.

Reality and practically, if you want a 9 second dragster, get something, strip it, tub it and build up either a SBC or a big block to take the juice or F/I. You can get there for a lot less than building up an LS1 ... unless you are a hobbiest with cash to burn and simply want to play with the big boys and be on the cutting edge of LS1 racing.

Good Luck

lol, you think i dont know about having to change the rear 10 bolt and upgrade the suspension?

and yeah... by the time im done w/ it, it's gonna be a all out dragster... but thats my objective. i want to see how far i can push the ls1 w/o blowing it, but if there are ppl that already have and have come to realize that it's impossible... *** it, ill just drop in an ARE 422 CID and do a few mods to it to get it into the 9's.

i've drivin a 10 second car down the track... my friend's 5.0 mustang supercharged w/ n2o. thats the same kid that told me to push the max horsepower on the car all engine, then put a supercharger and then put a n2o kit. and of course im going to have to do some major weight reduction... i just need help on finding out what exactly i want to do to the engine. thanks guys

They tried to re-enact the urban legend on that show. The story is funny, but not true.
