and yeah... by the time im done w/ it, it's gonna be a all out dragster... but thats my objective. i want to see how far i can push the ls1 w/o blowing it, but if there are ppl that already have and have come to realize that it's impossible... *** it, ill just drop in an ARE 422 CID and do a few mods to it to get it into the 9's.
i've drivin a 10 second car down the track... my friend's 5.0 mustang supercharged w/ n2o. thats the same kid that told me to push the max horsepower on the car all engine, then put a supercharger and then put a n2o kit. and of course im going to have to do some major weight reduction... i just need help on finding out what exactly i want to do to the engine. thanks guys

As far as a 422, are you dead set on ARE?? I've watched two ARE based cars being built up for over a year and half now. There just seem to be constant issues with the power plant ... you may want to give some thought to MTI or MMS. Or go the aforementioned wrecking yard route, get a block and a stroker kit and build it up yourself.
Good Luck

A lot of cars come in where just the rear or the front is damaged and since you will be stripping out anyway, the wreckers will have already done that, giving you jump start. Plus as long as the frame is in good shape you can also work with light weight front and back clips ... I believe VFN is one manufacturers that makes clips for the 4th gen.

yeah lets say you get it into 9's...which i dont think you will, your not going to havei it reliable, your deffinatly going to need suspension, rear end, and a bunch of other small things that can go wrong with that much hp...be more realistic and try getting 10 run 10's all day on a reliable car, its not like 10 seconds is slow at all. you have to have some bad a$$ driving skills for 9's

You'll need a stroker with forged internals, heavily ported heads. As far as power adders. Its your choice.Superchargers, turbos, or nitrous can get you in the 9's with the right set up.
You also need a drag race suspension, complete fuel system, upgraded tranny,12 bolt or 9 inch rear, some kind of computer tunning. And a 9 sec. legal roll cage.
As the owner of a 9 second Saleen mustang (shotting for 8's this spring) I'll tell you, building a 9 second car is very expensive( over $30k invested in my car) but your better off spending the extra money on the best parts available instead of trying to save a few bucks because you'll most likely end up spending more in the long run when the inferior parts break and need to be replaced.
You'll probally need 600-700 rwhp to get in the 9's.

to stik6shift00....
ill get it into the 9's... probably going to have to get a bigger engine, but i'll get into the 9's. if it's cheaper for me to get a ARE 422 (i like ARE) than it is to build my LS1 to handle 9's, then i'll do it.
i have a car right now i use for my daily driver... this camaro is gonna be a track car. i know what i need to do w/ the suspension and rear end, i have that all figured out already. all i want to know is your opinion on how to get into the 9's. there are a lot of ways... just wanna know what you guys would do.
'88Saleen.... bad *** car man, for real. hope you get into the 8's. lol i know not to get cheap parts that wont last... im going to be spending my money on good quality parts that wont give out. thanks for your reply man... good luck w/ your car

i'm sure if you call up ARE and explain your situation, they'll be happy to discuss options of what they think would be best..
Being an armchair racer, I say a 422 and spray..
Can it be done for $10-15k though? That I would like to see..
