Check engine light

Hi gang:
Have a 2000 Colo. State Patrol B4C and it is showing service engine soon light on.
Had a mechanic check it and it showed air leak somewhere.
Anyone ever had a gas cap go bad?

The car has 102 k miles and looks and runs SUPER.
In driving it back from denver in a snow storm (NO FUN) I got 27 plus MPG.
Original paint, auto trans.
This is my third Colo. Camaro and always drove Missouri State Patrol SSP Mustangs before.
After driving my first Camaro, a 92 I was sold on the cars.
My last one was a 97 B4C.

Any help on this service engine light will be greatly appreciated!!

I had the same light come on a while ago, it could be your o2 sensors or cats. Get them checked it.

If the gas cap isn't on right, the SES light will go off, but I'm sure you checked that.

My SES light came on because my car was running rich due to clogged catalytic converters. I would get that checked out, it's a common problem. Unfortunately, that service isn't under warranty after 80K miles, so it won't be free.

Take the car to a parts store that scans codes for free, they'll tell you what's causing your SES light to go off.
