Choosing a Cam

Don't worry, i've searched here, ls1.com, ls1tech and ls1info and know a lot about the subject, just wanted to get some opinions to my actual questions.

I'm hoping to order a cam over the winter to be installed in spring for the new season.

As the car sits now, I have an MTI Clear Lid and GMMG Catback....the car dynoed (on a Dynojet) 329.7rwhp and 342.6rwtq with 2800 kilometres.

Now, I would like to keep my stock heads, but I will be installing headers, most probably midlength macs or FLP longtubes (in addition to Y-pipe with Catalytic convertors for emissions).

The car is a street car, with only the occasional track pass.

I'm looking for a cam that gives a) great power and b) good sound/lets you know it is there slightly, but I want the car to be streetable.

By the above message forums, i've decided on the following options I think.

a) Thunder racing 220/220 .561/.561 112 LSA

b) Thunder racing 224/224 .561/.561 112 LSA

I decided on the 112 LSA due to having the M6.

c) LS1 Hotcam kit (218 I think)

By message forum recommendations, would you say the 220 or 224 Thunder cams are what I'm looking for? what kind of power/driveability can i expect?

As well, would you recommend any computer (ie. MAFT) tuning for the car after install?

Thanks for the advice guys.

An engine in totally stock form (such as yours) will take much better to a hotcam then either one of the thunder racing cams.

I've heard of some idling issues with the hotcam however.....and the thunder cams are supposed to put out some pretty good power.

The TR220 would probably be the best one of the three for you. Its going to make good midrange power due to its shorter duration. A 112LSA will definitely let you know that its there. Hope you plan on getting tuning with any of these cams.

You're going to have idling issues with any larger camshaft on an automatic car.

Yep, i'll get ARE to install the cam and tune the car.

I was thinking the 220 as well, especially as I plan on keeping the stock heads for now.
