Clicking Engine Noise

Hello,
I have a 1998 Z28 with automatic transmission. The car has about 78,000 miles on it. Lately (around 70,000 miles) I have been hearing a clicking fluttering like sound coming from the engine when I press the gas pedal. After a couple of seconds the clicking noise goes away, but when I get back on the gas, it does it again. Also this problem only happens once the engine is warmed up. It's really noticeable when coming off a dead start like when taking off from a stoplight. Does anybody have any ideas as what is going on???

thanks

The sounds you are hearing is most likely detonation in the combustion chambers of your engine, the usual cause for this is simply a poor or low octane fuel. You should only run premium gas in your Z ,if you are already using premium try another brand of gas,I have been using Shell V POWER with no problems.

I've already looked into the octan. I don't believe this is the problem. I did have to change one of the rocker arms at around 50,000 miles. Is it possible that another one has gone bad? I just changed the oil and I got no bearing needles out. (when the first rocker arm went bad,I got a bunch of needle bearings out of the oil.)

If you are absolutely sure that it is not a fuel issue, you might look at your valve springs, from what I have read in magazines and what I been told by a GM master tech, the valve springs in the stock form are not very good.Just a guess though, but a place to start looking,GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for all the help, I'll look into the valve springs.
